Tritium radiation…?
Hi everyone,
A post to get your opinions regarding this kind of watch description. https://greyandpatina.com/products/1...512-submariner « This supports this claim that the watch was likely left somewhere as the light tritium radiation likely imparted and patina’d the dial » I personally feel like this just another story to sell a watch with a humidity damaged dial as if it was something very special…

If you don’t trust the seller’s description and selling methods, don’t buy from them.
It’s just sales patter. |

Not thinking about buying anything from them just asking for others opinion regarding this kind of description.
Does anyone believe in tritium radiation affecting the dial like this ?

Just trying to sound better than it really is. The chemical compounds that glow when excited by tritium patinate over time, influence by son, dark, humidity, and the actual compounds they are made from - which itself has changed over time.

Looks like similar damage around the outer edge as well and a LOT of rust on the sweep hand. For me, it's more likely related to moisture. But who knows. Overall, the dial is not appealing to me and the pricing is hard to understand.

Looks like “light tritium radiation imparted patina” is the new moniker for water damage.

That dial damage should reduce the price, not raise it.

Looks like somebody has exposed the dial to high heat, likely to try and bring up some patina for the look.
It is a damaged dial and tritium has had nothing to do with it.

This is Lemrich dial from early WG 5513 (likely if check the back of dial to confirm) and most of them has spider cracking due to the paint Rolex used during that era. This one does not have spider cracking but is honest dial and I believe the water moisture has caused it.

Rust would usually suggest water damage. Many older watches, particularly dive watches have seconds hands showing slight damage. This one in my opinion is badly damaged.

If the dial and hands have that much corrosion and water damage, imagine what the movement looks like... Its probably roached.

Someone may have exposed the watch to high heat in order to dry out moisture.
