Thoughts from vintage perspective on the Tudor Pelagos FXD?

I like how it pays homage to the MilSub with the 60 minute hash marks on the bezel, fixed spring bars, time only, MN21 on the case back and fabric strap. Nice work by Tudor to collaborate again with the Marine Nationale after so many years!

Not such a big fan of the size (42mm), but it’s priced quite keenly.

Overall, a great new novelty by Tudor who keep on kicking goals from taking inspiration from their heritage / back catalogue.

Won't be buying, as I already enjoy a Blue Pelagos. But I like this MN version and that Tudor continues to evolve while mining it's rich heritage.

I like it a lot. I won't buy it, though, as I'm not interested in buying mechanical watches anymore, I only wear quartz grab-and-go watches nowadays.

That sucks…..I won’t go electric until I’m dead….but I have a blue pelagos already so won’t be getting the MN

Like it more after seeing it on Tudor’s site this morning but would still prefer a regular blue Pelagos as I tend to require a date.

Well, I have nothing against quartz and have owned my fair share in the past. I used to own a Pelagos too (the black 5-liner) but I sold it as I couldn't justify the price.

I still love mechanical watches, especially the independents, but nothing that I can afford excites me.

It does absolutely nothing for me.

Not a fan of the reverse insert and lack of bracelet. Prefer the BB58 as a modern tudor inspired by vintage.

I actually like the watch as a whole...

The insert is strange though, especially with the normal three marks between most of the numerals - yet four marks squeezed in between the 9 o'clock and 1 o'clock positions - (the '1' in the '10' (as opposed to the '2'/20, '3'/30 etc.) obviously allowed more room for the extra marks - it's a nod to the Rolex Milsub - but with the Milsub having a true dive bezel insert - not a countdown version.


I'd like to see the watch in real life though.

For all intents and purposes, it appears this is a true tool watch designed for and to be used by the Marine Nationale, rather than any tribute or homage piece. So all the changes to the regular Pelagos have been made to serve a particular function required by MN.

To that end, I don’t mind the changes if it is to serve a real world purpose (as opposed to a change for aesthetics Or marketing).

I like it and will probably get one. I picked up the recent Yema GMT MN homage as well. I have a couple real issued MNs, so this is a bit honorary of the originals.

From what I see, it's not fixed (i.e. welded) spring bars, but a one-piece case incorporating slots for the NATO, which would kind of make the FXD name a misnomer.

I'm enjoying that case concept. Spring bars are a PITA. I also like the precision chamfers on the rear of the case. It's very well machined.

If I ever wore NATOs I might get one, but I don't.

I agree it's a nice idea and seems well executed. Just not sure why everyone out there seems to be talking about fixed spring bars, when there are none. Anyway, no big deal. Quite a nice piece.

Another wasted opportunity to make the pelagos a decent wearable watch, and they will have to release next n-ty black bay incarnation to close the budget.

I love the look but have the same objections that I have to the lovely blue Pelagos --not a fan of titanium cases. The weight/wrist feedback never feels quite right to me. I'd be a definite candidate if it were stainless.

CheapestNatoStraps do some nice single-pass NATOs that don't feel as cheap as the name would suggest. 10 - 20 bucks.

Take a look at Bulang and Sons too. They have some nice stuff.

your question about vintage= Pelagos. New is new old is old. Not to be sarcastic they are two different items. Some collectors mix. But I believe a true vintage collectors seeks out those items that have proven the test of time.
