Better Pairing

I currently own the Lange Saxonia Outsize Date (in RG/black dial) and Vacheron Fifty Six Self-winding (SS/Silver dial). Love them as a pair of dressy versatile watches but that I can dress down and wear pretty much in any situation.

I made the mistake of going down the rabbit hole and looking at the Lange 1 collection and have fallen in love with the line. Second mistake was reaching out to my AD who has a Lange 1 in white gold. Third mistake was going down there and trying it on. I won't bother posting pics as many of you know, and owners can back me up, they just won't do the watch justice. The dial really pops in this indescribable way that pics don't capture. They were kind enough to encourage and escort me outside and check out the watch under different natural light conditions. Really hard to describe...but the dial was electric. My initial thought of the dial being too monotone have disappeared. Anyway...I'm smitten by the watch.

So the obvious option is to just add it along side the VC and the Saxonia. But, my wallet would be a little happier and heavier, if I let go of the Saxonia and put the funds towards the Lange. But question is what would be the better pair?

Saxonia and VC: My current pair is great don't get me wrong but something about that Lange 1....this pairing has been really great, very different from each other compliment each other nicely. White dial/black dial, white metal, rose gold, etc....

Lange 1 and VC: while both white material and white dial, very different enough in my opinion. And with the VC being in SS, that could sort of be my more 'everyday' white dial dress watch option.

Lange 1 and Saxonia: Yeah, this would be an awesome pairing too. OBVIOUSLY. But any funds from the VC wouldn't put a dent into the difference towards the Lange. And then I'd have 2 from the same brand (not to say that would be bad thing) but do like having at least two brands represented.

They all look round to me, save money and get the Bvlgari Octo FS. If you're going different, may as well do it with some style imho.

Thanks for the input
Yeah, the Octo is just not my 'style'. Lovely watch but just doesn't do it for me.

The two Langes. I have a Saxonia Thin in rose gold, and a yellow gold Lange 1; I love the pairing.

I say let the VC go and keep the Lange collection going. Love the Lange 1!

Voted Lange 1 and Lange Saxonia, but really would have preferred to vote for a Lange/VC combination because it would be great to have both a Lange and a VC. I think a VC with a simple dial, no Arabic numerals, would be a better complement to the Lange 1, so that rules out the VC Fifty Six. If you had the VC Traditionelle 82172 on here, I would have voted Lange 1 and VC 82172.

Simple question if it was me. Are you someone who plan to get one signature piece from each top brand? Or you see yourself as a single brand collector.

Don’t say that you are done after these two watches. As you said you are down the rabbit hole already.

Great point/question
My humble collection (includes a BLNR on jubilee and the Speedy) reflects that I lean towards brand diversity and getting examples from brands I like. And I think my equally humble wallet probably contributes to that Not to say that the Lange 1 and Saxonia are 'similar' but I think ultimately I would prefer more diversity.

And I don't think I've mentioned anything about being done! Been into this hobby for way too long to ever utter those words.

Not a great pic I took under the always harsh and terrible lighting at the AD. My Saxonia on the right.

I completely disregarded this line when it first launched...got caught up on the generally negative commentary around the line. Especially this simple date version that doesn't boast an in-house movement. But when I strapped it on at an AD, literally took me a second to pull the trigger.
Love the mix of dressy/sporty dial...and with it being in SS, just a great daily (and I know 'daily' can mean a lot of different things). With yours being in RG, will likely lean one way but I bet you are going to end up wearing it in a lot of different situations.
You will love it...looking forward to incoming thread and your thoughts.

Lange 1 is the winner of all those three IMO… I think you can get the Lange 1 and ditch the other two .

I would ditch the VC and go with the 2 Langes. The Langes are nicer than the VC, and having a rose gold piece will increase the versatility of the 2 watches.

Dead heat between the Lange 1/VC Fiftysix and the Lange 1/Lange Saxonia combo. Anyone going to break the tie?!?!
Either way, the takeaway is pretty clear that the Lange 1 needs to be in the collection regardless of pairing.

What about the Lange 1 as your only watch?

Always an option...and who knows, could be down the road. But at this point, really like the idea of having at least 2 'dress' watches. The VC is surprisingly versatile especially being in SS and a nice daily. I can see wearing the Lange 1 on more special occasions (the purpose that my Saxonia currently serves).

How about Lange 1 plus a complicated Lange (1815 chrono or AC)… like this combo better than your other two combos

What happened to the Cornes de Vache idea?

As for these particular pairings, I voted for the two Langes, as I'm not personally a fan of that particular Fiftysix, even though I like the Fiftysix line as a whole. That written, these aren't my favorite Langes either, despite my love for the brand.

You know…that was a close contender at one point. But the Lange won out (per my incoming thread). The Lange just sat better on my wrist too. A gorgeous watch nonetheless…
