Anyone else notice?
The Movado advertisement’s here in the U.S. pushing stainless steel, automatic watches where the commercial has the time set to 10:10-ish and the date set to “28”? Mimicking the Rolex advertising?

The 10:10 setting is not a Rolex thing, it's used by most of the big names.

Yes, just noticed the Movado media buys. Good commercials.
Their new “sports” watches look decent and should sell well at the upscale department stores (like Macy’s) and mall-based jewelry retailers (Kay, Zales, Helzberg, etc.). |

10:10 is a popular setting.
Years back I used to see 8:18 also being used. Those settings are eye-appealing and also <usually> allow the dial text, date, etc. to show nicely.

On a side note, I’m glad to see Movado trying to up it’s game.

I have no idea if I'm right but it could be because 28 fills the date window nicely, or it could be because the Chinese consider the number to be lucky.
Another possibility is that 28 was chosen because it is a "perfect number'', ie one whose divisors add up to the number. So 6 is the first perfect number - its divisors 1, 2, and 3 add up to 6. The next perfect number is 28 - its divisors are 1, 2, 4, 7 and 14, which add up to 28. The next perfect number is 496 and then 8218 and so on. |
