If money is not the issue, I would keep it:
-you can put it on from time to time to break the routine -it can be a reminder of a previous phase in your life, or be attached to a memory -you avoid potential seller's remorse -down the road (or sooner!) you can gift it to a friend / relative |

It seems like you only have two Rolexes (yours and the one from your dad). Keep it then. Now if you have seven Rolexes, then you can certainly consider selling two or even three.
I am a member of the Martin Guitar club. Martins are beautiful acoustic guitars (established 1883) that hold their value very well and increase in value over time. A lot of Martin owners that sold their guitars eventually regret it. They said the money was just used to eventually pay for daily expenses and the like. They wish they just kept the guitar and played it every so often. Its not the same (watches and guitars) but I think you will get the point. I have five Rolexes, and I seldom wear all of them. They will end up with the kids and grandkids. But my case is different than yours. |

To be honest they were status pieces for when I worked in an office. Ever since Covid, I have not been back into an office environment and have actually moved on to a different career path. Now, I am looking into less hype pieces based on their horological merit. The pieces I have sold: 14060M Sub DJ41 Blue on jubilee 18038 YG Day/Date OP39 White 6694 Silver Dial Milgauss Blue Milgauss Black SD43 Mark 1 114060 Sub

I am somewhat similar. I had the Batman, sub date and Explorer 39 mark II. Sold them all. Now my only watch is the new 36 Explorer. I work from home now and don’t need all the watches. It also feels good to not have too much money tied into watches. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you aren't wearing it, why keep it. The market is so strong at the moment even DJ resale is good. That could change as most things run in cycles. If you think you will regret selling it, at some point, think it over some more.

People missing the point here from an investment point of view. It’s called diversification, having your irons in a lot of fires ie. watches, stocks crypto, real estate, cash, gold etc, etc.
However keeping or selling something is a unique decision which is different for every individual. |

I have several watches that I am simply "holding" in a safe, Rolex and Omega. All have appreciated and are continuing to appreciate. I would sell, but I don't need the cash. Right now I would rather have hard assets that are at least holding their value and keeping up with inflation. I'm not talking about "investments", I'm talking about tangible assets that are storing their value - real estate, collectible fountain pens, knives, guns, gold, silver, and Rolex watches. If I sold my Rolexes where would I put the money? 0.01% savings or CDs? The stock market that is way, way over-valued right now. Bonds making no return? REITs with retail and commercial real estate headed into the crapper? No... now is the time to hold hard assets. Having some cash for opportunities would be the only reason to hold cash in my mind, but any cash now is losing value just sitting in the bank!
Now I am not going to hold my watches forever though. I will be watching this forum and others and watching the market. I see no need to sell now as it is a bull market for Rolex. When things start to cool, then I will jump to sell. If things crash and I don't have time to sell, then I will just continue to hold and enjoy my watches. |

If you don't use or love it, sell or give it to someone who does IMHO.

I’d make sure you really don’t want it. I find that my new (or new to me) watches get tons of wear time and then that wanes after a month or so. Then I start wearing everything. But if the DJ truly will get no wear time and doesn’t fit any niche in your collection then it seems no harm in selling.

I started getting an uncomfortably large (for me) collection of Rolex's (5). Although I didn't have to, I sold 4 of them at great profits (ironically, the one I kept was a 116200 DJ, the one I loved the most) to pay out the last of my mortgage. That was a great feeling. Not so great was seeing the value of the ones I sold go up another about 15K. Still never regretted it though, and went on to buy a second property at these crazy low interest rates... and another Rolex (16610 random).
The moral of the story - none really LOL Or maybe the other poster was right, just do what you want. |

Sell it if you feel like selling it. It’s quite simple.

[QUOTE=Driver8;11882584]Personally I don't see the point of holding on to things I don't love or get any decent utility out of.
Totally agree with this.
