PM weight - great, bad, or tolerable

Thinking a bit about the DD with the Ice Blue diamond set dial. Interested to know if posters prefer or do not prefer the weight of Platinum and / or gold.

Gold is great, feels like something of substance on the wrist and you get used to it pretty quickly. I have not had PT, but heard it is a bit too much, although also very manageable.

I'm still not used to the PT DD weight after about a month... it's not bad so it's in the tolerable area but my "ideal" watch weight is around 150gm not 200+

I owned a full gold Submariner and hated the weight. It was always such a relief to put my 116610LV back on after a long day with the Smurf. I guess everyone has different "comfort parameters". Some people love heavy watches. You might. I don't.

After about 3 minutes, I don’t notice any difference between a PM DD and a (12g) Swatch Skin.

I have suffered through the burden of a platinum Daytona every day for five years. After a while, you stop hating it.

Seriously, you feel it when you first put it on. You forget the weight almost immediately, unless you think about it. Then you know it's there. I do have it fitted so it's *relatively* tight. I don't think I'd like a platinum watch flopping around my wrist.

I imagine it's one of those things you are unlikely to really know until you buy it. I can't exactly remember what I thought when I tried it on for the first time, but I'm sure it was much more noticeable than it is when you own it and wear it. Maybe if I rotated with a SS watch, I'd have to get used to the weight for a bit when I rotated back, but I don't know.

Great, but everyone is different. Personally I love the weight of an all gold watch. quite special.

Do you find your bench presses off balance because your left arm is so much stronger? Lol.

Seriously though, I do have that problem with the rowing machine.

Fit is the key there. A big heavy PM watch can't flop around as much as a SS one or it gets uncomfortable

Intended for my WG sub to be for special occasions. Hasn’t left my wrist since I got it. My Explorer feels weightless when I pick it up. I got used to the weight right away. It is something special to put it on and take it off. You know it is there and you love it.

Part of the joy and experience is the weight imho.

Yep. It’s around 246 grams of pure bliss on the wrist

Granted I’m in the “I like em heavy camp”

Thanks. This one is really growing on me but not sure I can pull it off from a wrist size standpoint. I assume it isn't easy to get either.

I think there’s a lot more of the Rhodium dials out there than Chocolate. I think Rolex and even some Greys are putting a choke hold on anything Rose Gold and Chocolate.

Daytonas, DayDates, SkyD’s.

I’m chasing a partner for it in a Daytona and omg let me tell you it’s hard. At least for me anyway but that’s a whole other story

I have not been able to go back to SS after wearing PM. PM or Apple Watch has been my preference these days.

My take is contrarian. I have watches of all weights and sizes, some heavier, some lighter. The basic answer is that if you’ve worn a light watch for a few days and then wear a heavier piece it will take you a few hours until you forget its there. This works in reverse too. In so much as you go from heavier to lighter, during the first few hours panic can strike thinking your watch has fallen off, only to look down and see it there.

Either way, its never more than 3 hours of adapting and then the whole point is mute. Same as heavier boots, coats or whatever, a few hours and you forget they’re there.

Sorry to burst anyone’s balloon, but even the heaviest watch will be rendered weightless to your perception after a few hours. Probably a lot quicker than the new watch hype takes to wear off.

Strangely I'm good with the weight of any watch I like. I've got the heaviest and many much lighter. The heavy weight has kind of priced itself out of frequently being worn in the rotation.

As long as the bracelet is snug and it doesnt float around too much I dont mind a heavier piece ;)

When I wear this DD, I always strap a 5-pound ankle weight to my opposite wrist and that prevents me from walking in circles. Like others have said, after about 30 seconds it's never noticed. I prefer the weight, it feels more substantial. Hopefully, you have an opportunity to try it on before you bite the bullet!

So this is the one. If I may ask, what is retail?
