Audemars Royal Oak unrepairable?
I have an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak (!8 kt gold /diamond bezel) that I have owned about 15 years. I have not worn the watch often and realized it was not working a couple of years ago. I sent in to Audemars for repair and was told that they did not have the necessary components at the time but that the "manufacture was actively seeking an upgraded movement" and I would be informed when the new movement came available- after two years I recontacted Audemars and was told that the quartz movement was not repairable does this basically mean I have a useless watch ? Very disappointed in this company that promotes luxury timepieces

No wonder many people told me not to buy AP vintage quartz watches.

I'm very surprised to hear this as I know AP have a very good vintage department in La Brassus. They should be able to repair anything, only question would be the cost involved. But quartz movements may be a different story...

Hi Everyone thanks for feedback- please let me know if you hear of this problem with any other AP Royal Oak owners- frankly really surprised AP not standing behind their watches as they are still selling this model at very high prices

You may have luck with an independent watchmaker

The quartz movement may very well be unrepairable but they should be able to replace the movement. Are they not doing this? Are you saying that they have had your watch for 2 years with no solution? |

I believe all the quartz models are a JLC-based movement, which should make it easier to fix/replace. Can you send us the exact reference number of the watch?

Not sure it is for quartz watches, Rolex and Tudor have the same issue, Rolex still have parts for the OQ and should be able to maintain it over the foreseeable future. Tudor used to purchase its quartz movements from external suppliers and thus is no longer able to maintain the older ones.

Jesus, I didn't know this was a thing. I sent an old quartz PP to service and didn't know this was a thing. No wonder they are taking so long

If they can't fix the movement you need to ask them to replace the movement with a new one.
I don't see any other solution. |

Use the "Go Advanced" button instead of "Post Quick Reply". Click on the paperclip and it will provide the size for image formats. BTW, another way to do this would be to view the image on your device and just get a screen grab if on a mobile device or copy using the the snipping tool if you are on a PC. It will copy at 72DPI which is appropriate for screen resolution. Good luck!
