116500LN Panda with steel bezel?
I’ve always wondered what it would’ve been like if Rolex updated the Daytona in 2016 but kept the steel bezel. The font would’ve been updated as would the dial but a totally different look without the black ceramic. So I bought a very high quality Japanese aftermarket bezel and (don’t worry Rolex purists) just laid it on top of the ceramic bezel for this photo. Of course, it’ll scratch just by looking at it, but besides for that, what do you think? I think if you showed this to Daytona fans in 1988 and told them this would be the future Daytona in about 3 decades, they’d would’ve thought it would make sense. Click on image to expand.

I don't like it without a black bezel but that's just me.

Me too. The contrast of the black ceramic bezel is more dramatic and a totally different vibe.

If the black bezel goes, so does my name on the list. Kind of a win-win for me in a way, can focus just on SS subs and GMTs.

Kind of, but without the chromish subdials, that’s personally a deal breaker for me. If the 116520 had black subdials I think they’d be worth as much as an 116500LN right now. |

Rolex won’t go back from ceramic.
116500LN > 16520 > 116520 in my opinion. I just can’t get on with the silver sub-dials. |
