Rolex Collab How Would You Feel

Hi all seeing the new Omega Swatch X how would you feel if rolex did this with the Daytona or a GMT?

What exactly are you asking?
If Rolex made a watch with Swatch?

Rolex have produced plenty of products more questionable than a collaboration with Swatch

Omega did not make a watch with Swatch. Swatch made a homage collection of the Speedmaster, and they were allowed to do that because they are both owned by the same parent company, The Swatch Group. If Rolex is under the same ownership dynamic as Omega and Swatch are, and the cheaper affiliated brand made a homage edition of one of Rolex’s iconic pieces, then that would be fine in my opinion. Obviously we know that wouldn’t happen since Rolex doesn’t have a Swatch type of brand under its parent company so it is what it is

Sure, not exact or $200 but Tudor GMT and Tudor Chrono. Already done, in my opinion.

So something like Swatch which meant you could get a daytona quartz or gmt pepsi quartz for £200 officiated by rolex.

But it doesn’t say rolex and daytona on it

And it’s not $250. And it doesn’t have the same design and look. Neither would be mistaken for a Rolex.

Don’t understand why folks are so butthurt over this. At least it changes the chat from being about assets and investments.

Exactly! It’s such a fun and beautiful collab. Anyone bitching about it are the ones worried about their “investment”. Lighten up!

Omega didn’t make the watch, but it does have Omega branding on it. Rolex would never allow that. BTW love the MoonSwatch, it was a brilliant idea.

Some examples

I plan to pick up a Moonswatch as a beater. Too bad they’ll only be sold at select Swatch stores and none near me. Will have to go to the secondary market for these.

Just be patient. Swatch has indicated they’ll be available online eventually. My guess is the fall, just in time for the Christmas season.

That said, I would not be excited about the Crown logo on a non-Rolex. And it would never be done.

Source?

If markup is $350 or less, I’ll buy from the secondary market. Won’t pay more than that.

I couldn't care less if they did. I buy particular watches because I happen to like those particular watches, not because of some sort of perceived image that I think others may have of the brand, and by extension, of me.

A collab of Rolex with another brand wouldn't change the quality of (or how much I personally like) the watches I already own.

I've seen reports of people now selling their Omegas because of the MoonSwatch existing, which is a mind-bogglingly daft thing to do in my opinion. That to me says they only bought their Omega because of their perception of the Omega brand image, not because of the watch itself.

I'm also a Breitling fan, and over the years they've made some truly TRULY hideous pieces, but none of those made me want to sell the ones I like and own. Why would it? I personally think that believing a collab like the MoonSwatch somehow tarnishes everything Omega has ever done shows a level of shallowness and immaturity. JMO of course.

Apples and Oranges

Omega is part of the Swatch group with a dozen+ different brands. Much more opportunity for these types of co-branding releases.

It's pretty much just Rolex and Tudor, and that's it. Not much opportunity and doesn't make sense anyway.

Whether Omega was forced into this or not, they played a role in this collection. I’d call that a collab.

Rolex would never do this. This is the distinction between independents vs conglomerate owned.

As for this collaboration, I think it's cool. Well done Swatch. As for current speedmaster owners, I could see how it might not sit well. Does take out any exclusivity if any.

From Wired
“Although Omega says the collection is not limited in quantity, the pieces will likely leave store shelves as quickly as they arrive. Resellers have already popped up online asking huge sums. The MoonSwatch will apparently be available online in the future, however.”

A Swatch official confirmed this on Instagram, but I don’t have an account.

Just sit tight, wait a few months, and then buy one direct from Swatch online.

And besides, I reckon they'll be quite a few disappointed people who will have bought on the secondary market (for a huge mark-up), when they realise just how cheap Swatch watches feel. I don't see the hype lasting for more than a few months.

Personally I quite fancy getting one (maybe two), but I've owned Swatches before and I wouldn't pay a penny over retail for one.

Rolex has done many collaborations before. People seem to forget about those. Hell, they printed the Dominos Pizza logo right on the dial...

Weren't those designed for employees as rewards? Not exactly something the public could go request.

Nice to see brands doing something different with collabs, but I can't see Rolex going this route.

The Neptune and Pluto versions are nice color variations.

Did Rolex do that? Or did Dominos buy the Rolex and have them customized?
