White Gold values - primarily 40mm DD
Prior to the meteoric rise in Rolex prices across the board (mostly pre-COVID) the WG Day Date lagged significantly behind Yellow and Rose. Now it seems to have shot past both of them especially in the DD40 line. Can anyone tell me why? It was always the step child in the line and now it seems to have gone haywire. What gives?

Have you seen the WG DD40 meteorite dial? I wonder if that sleeper is bringing the others up.

Most likely due to flippers. As someone who has always preferred white gold/platinum, I want to say change in consumer preferences (YG is too loud/attracts wrong attention and Rolex's rose gold is too pink/feminine for me), but at the end of the day, the stealth wealth crowd is much smaller than the IG flex crowd

White gold has definitely NOT surpassed Rose Gold. No way - only the Olive/Meteorite dial is getting good prices.
RG is still the hyped metal. I actually think WG is the least favorite now. YG is on a HUGE comeback now. $51-$52k for YG DD40s. Regular dial WG DD40s are only like $1k higher. RG is on another planet. |

Have to agree but hype today sells watches and many buy the hype to wear it.

For someone like me, WG is the only option. RG and YG look better but just can’t wear them. I think Platinum is the best of the lot but way too heavy and impractical. 230g for a 36mm DD is heavy. So my choice would always be WG. I thought about it and went with 118239. If you can get it for retail, undoubtedly WG DD. A Great watch.

I think RG is still commanding a larger premium than WG. The dial really makes or breaks the price on these anyway. Olive dial? Meteorite? Blue Roman’s? $$$. The other dials appear to be somewhat less expensive (and probably attainable at retail from an AD).

Nothing scientific. Just a noticeable trend over the past year since I first started to move towards a DD40 in WG. Sold my Rose Skydweller when the market was depressed and should have moved then
