My Explorer 214270 mk 2. I could be perfectly happy with just that. They don’t call it The Collection Killer for nothing!

Absolutely. All collectors are likely enthusiasts, but all enthusiasts aren’t necessarily collectors. I’ve always been a bit of a binge and purge enthusiast. Over research, buy a bunch of stuff to try, and then sell everything off when I find the right one.

Collection ender?
I wouldn’t say there is any one specific watch, but I just don’t need more than 4 watches. If I had Jeff Bezos money, I’m not sure I’d want a Patek or AP. Probably not.
So I can definitely relate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Collection ender?
The BLNR on jubilee is one of those watches that owners who actually wear it love. It’s a more versatile daily wearer than the Pepsi with it’s blue/black and the jubilee is so light and comfortable. Until the unexpected call I didn’t think I would love it as much as I do. It’s my favourite behind the daytona.
So ’m also in a similar position where I am happy where I’m at. Usually at this point, it’s branching out into PM pieces (DD40 is next on my list but none of the dial options on the YG appeal) or other brands. The Daytona is worth getting. I love mine (116519LN). It’s one of those watches you take joy in admiring on your wrist. And whatever memory it is associated with. Mine was to mark a milestone birthday and birth all in the same month (although it arrived a month earlier, I wasn’t going to ask the SA to hold it). The 114060 is m daily, very well worn piece. But the BLNR completed the professional line for me. I think if I had gotten the BLNR first, there’s a decent chance I may not have bothered with the others. It’s that versatile. I have the BLNR, it's great.
But with all the watches you listed, you're really just at the very beginning. You're leaving a lot to be experienced. Skydweller (annual calendar), day dates (weekly calendar), vintage 1016, vintage 1655, 4 digit daytonas, red subs, oysterflex daytonas, full precious metals, meteorite. That's not even touching any other brands that make complications and are higher up the totem pole than Rolex. Lange 1815 chrono, dato. Patek calendars. VC triple dates. The world of horology is vast, Rolex is just a gateway drug, just an every day basic wear. Quote:

The reality is no one needs more than one Rolex. They are tough and will last several lifetimes. That said, a enthusiast could easily justify why they want to fine tune their look to include many more models.

BLNR is what made me want to experience other watches :)
FWIW, I started with BLNR and ended with a BLRO, Sub and Exp 1 39mm. Granted any one of these are more than capable of being a one watch and done. But there's no fun in that for me. Too many nice watches out there.

I've been happiest when I had one watch, to wear for all occasions, and not having to decide which to wear to what, take on a trip, etc. A long time ago, a LN GMT was supposed to be the "one" and last watch, then came many others. I do really want to get down to the "one" watch. I now rarely wear the GMT, and I realize this sounds like a ridiculously silly 1st world problem, but I really dislike deciding which of the 3 in my main rotation to wear each day. |

I don’t know, went pretty well with my sports coat at a wedding I went to this weekend. The jubilee makes it more versatile. I used to have a NOMOS for dress but nowadays, I don’t think a true “dress” watch is even needed anymore.

I have the LV and been on the hunt for a GMT Master 2 since 2017. Rekindled my relationship with same AD in Houston TX last year October and already got a TT DJ41 with Wimbledon Dial and SS DJ41 with Blue Lumed stick dials both on Jubilee bracelets. My end game watch for this year [fingers crossed] is the BLRO. Just like you, once i get that, i am sure i will relax on my other purchases which will be PM pieces [except for Panda Daytona when it pops up] I have gone days sleepless cos of the BLRO especially over the past couple of months with 2 of my friends picking up theirs in the UK and UAE..... just typing this now and i know i am going to spend the whole week dreaming about getting "my precious" soon :)

That is until I received a 126719 blue face. Now it's probably 50/50. Still not an ender. Don't think I'll get to a collection ender ever. |

I think that everyone gets to the point where enough is enough, and sometimes that day arrives quietly unannounced and without us realising it, so whilst we may seek that grail, that one watch we must have, there are occasions when that watch has already been bought, we look for more but nothing hits the mark as much as that one we already have in the box.
OP, it is possible that you have found your watch, if it is then congratulations.

I don't need dozens of watches or anything super expensive but no single watch fits every combination of clothes/activity/situation any more than a single pair of shoes would.

An Explorer and a "Pepsi" GMT - that'll be my collection. One low key, go anywhere do anything watch, and the other a highly versatile watch.

The BLNR was my very first Rolex. After wearing it for years I borrowed a friend’s Sub on a trip to Polynesia, and fell in love. I’ve always wanted a Z-Blue Milgauss because of the history, so the collecting continues unabated.

However I will say that if I ever get a chance to get a 116505, 238235, or the new Platinum DD I’m probably gonna jump at the opportunity. Depending on finances and when I’d possibly do all 3. However I will say it’s like meh… If I do great and if I don’t it’s also fine. The 515 really did close it out for me with these other 2. Maybe

I don't understand the words "done" and "watch" used in the same sentence! ;) I wish that I did. I would love to be a happy, satisfied one watch guy.

I haven't owned enough watches yet, but my BLNR is definitely my favorite watch so far. I'm waiting on a SS Panda, perhaps a YG OF Daytona or a YG DD40 someday. 6-7 is the sweet spot for me in terms of a collection.
