The more I had, the more I wanted. Ended up consolidating my collection and left only two watches that mean something to me: 116600 & 214270. I have zero need for any other piece at present. Simplicity is key, at least in my case.

How many Rolex is enough?
It should be one. Haha But we are greedy by nature, it seems. Fine line between collecting and hoarding lol

I had 3 but my mother always maintained 1, as she felt one would last a lifetime. I am now down to one. The issue is for me, more about does one want to curate a collection akin to a museum or live life in 1-2 special pieces that actually get associated with us, by others and we make memories in. The issue is these larger collections of 6-8 or so, it’s like each watch gets worn a few weeks out of the year and they just become more “things” or “objects” like trinkets on a bookcase.
It’s a paradox that most here are afraid to live life in their Rolex yet the ones most sought after at auction are not the ones that spend most of their life in a safe, they are the watches that get used and even abused that are the most sought after. |

Well, back in the 1970s and 1980s, I took to heart what the SA at the AD told me, you get a Rolex and keep it for life. I would add, but be sure that you get one you really, really like -- better still, get one you love. Buy it, wear it, have it serviced regularly, and if the RSC says it's time for to replace the bracelet or case, do it. You will be rewarded by having a lovely Rolex about which you can say "this is My Rolex," not one of my Rolex watches. You will develop a connection to it as it becomes a part of your life, and you will wear it all the time, not just because it's cool, or hip, or rare, or your Saturday watch, but because it's become a part of your life -- a familiar and comfortable friend.

Have 3 currently but that may be one too many for my tastes. I'll always have one or two though. Unless I have a rich uncle I don't yet know about.
