We witnessed a young man with dark hair lift a briefcase from an American woman and man on a train out of Brussels before we left the station. Unfortunately for the young man, the woman was apparently not afraid and caught up to him on the platform snatching the case violently off his shoulder. She may have dislocated his shoulder as he ran away. They said he was probably a Romani man? I had zero problems in Barcelona in 2019 and wore my DSSD, also in Paris and Brugge.

Why over think it, leave the Rolex at home and just enjoy your hols.

I went to Dubrovnik at the start of May for a few days and I wore my Seiko Shogun and also threw in a G-Shock into my suitcase, incase we went anywhere that needed a durable plastic watch.

Never had a worry in the world about being mugged for my watch, in fact we had dinner at the only Michelin Star rated restaurant in Dubrovnik too. The service and food were exceptional even wearing a humble Seiko...

The Sea looked stunning wearing the Seiko although the Sunset could have been better when I wore the G-Shock. Come to think of it, a Rolex may have given me a better sunset.

Highly variable. Depends on where you are going. For example, in Italy you will be arrested and deported for wearing anything fake and England closes for week ends.

If you think coming to Europe is potentially that dangerous then may I respectfully suggest you stay at home in your comfort zone.

It's always funny when someone asks if it's safe to wear a Rolex in NYC/London/Paris/LA/etc.

Tell me you're a bumpkin without telling me you're a bumpkin.

I live in Europe and there are places I would not go in daylight let alone wear a watch worth over 5 euros. Crime in most European countries -like in USA- is rife and growing at quite a frightening rate with little or no police support.

I'm lucky whereby I like many others wear Rolex's and other 'expensive' watches with short sleeves day and night walking around without a concern.
However I KNOW it's safe here in my local area but I also know there are parts of the island I wouldn't be quite so confident.

You don't have local knowledge of where you're going so with that in mind it's easier and safer to leave it at home.. If you do bring it wear long sheeves and keep it hidden when out in public.

Enjoy your trip.

These threads are bizarre, but I get it in a way as you're a long way from home where you feel comfortable no matter what the crime rate in your home town (LA I believe for the OP).

But if you have to ask then just don't wear it as it won't affect your holiday it's just a watch...

They are only used there, in Europe nobody uses Rolex, even if it is a European brand.

If you are asking the question it means that subconsciously there is genuine fear and doubt. Comments from anonymous people on a forum probably won’t remedy that. I can’t think of any plausible reason why you would wish to submit yourself to such anxiety while traveling anywhere. The only strangers who care about the watch you’re wearing on a crowded street, public transportation or an enclosed venue are either those looking to steal it, or you.

Anecdotally, I stopped traveling anywhere with my higher grade timepieces several years ago. I just don’t have the patience to be working on situational awareness and all that stuff when I’m precisely trying to unwind on vacation from the everyday pressure of life.

This is for real. I only wear my Rolex on the farm. Once had a cow lick it and that was terrifying. No way I’d ever wear it in any city!

Rolex in Europe

Any big city whether in Europe or world wide is going to have reasonably safe areas & also down rite dangerous no go areas,

If it’s your first time in any of these cities & you don’t know them, then the sensible advice would be to leave all the expensive stuff at home & travel light.

I know it’s frustrating as it’s nice to go out to dinner in all your finery, but seriously not worth the heart ache imho

His arm wasn't chopped off but Paul Thorpe recently interviewed a kid who's Tudor GMT was stolen at a UK train station. My guess is they thought it was a BLRO.

It’s unsafe to travel to any major city in the world wearing a Rolex.

Google any major city and stolen Rolex, and you’re likely to get a hit

This. And people think that if you don’t go to dangerous areas you’re fine. Not at all! Usually watch robberies happen in nice and fine districts where spotters spot you at the restaurant / hotel / bar and then rob you. You are lucky if they just take your watch. You could be unlucky and get your throat cut or your balls shot. People saying it’s all fine are just irresponsible.

You are in the UK. Have you heard of all the people getting robbed their watches in London? It’s like every week or so.
