A Lange & Sohne
I recently saw a display of some A Lange & Sohne pieces whilst on holiday.
They have some really classy looking models. I see they are German made and not too cheap. Looks like they are nearly all gold or platinum made. Anyone have any experience with one?

my experience is limited to seeing pictures on the net, and the only thing that will ever change that is lotto 6/49.

I had the good fortune of borrowing a Lange 1 for a year. It was an amazing watch. To wind it is a near sensual experience. The quality is incredible. My dream watch is a Richard Lange, and I soon intend to realize that dream.

A Lange & Sohne are imo in the top five of the best manufacturer's in the world.
There craftmanship and detail to quality is undisputed. You only have to look at the movement on a Datograph to realise that. Howard, I shall look forward to seeing your Richard Lange when you get it.

A good friend with a large watch collection loaned it to me. I know, it took me aback as well.

I have about 4.5 years experience with a Lange One Moon Phase. They are great watches. Your post reminds me I should wear more often. Yes, they are all gold or platinum models, no SS. I think there may have been a short LE run in SS years ago, but I can't recall the details.

Such a stunning watch, Matt!
As to the original post, there are at least a couple of models that can be had for $10K or less on the pre-owned market. The new 40mm 1815 looks very nice, and I believe it will retail for around $18K in gold:

If I had the bucks, I'd get a Lange. I also like the fact that they are not as known as some of the famous watchmakers in the same ballpark.
If you want something less spendy, check out Dornbleuth. |

I got the catalogue as well. It is a very nice publication with a lot of beautiful watches. It is well worth going to their site and ordering it (It's free, how can you beat that?).
