How many winds (new 9SA5 Hi-Beat).. ?
So I'm curious as I'm noticing my new GS "White Birch" running about 10-12 seconds fast per 24 hours, maybe I'm not winding it enough to get both barrels wound all the way? How many winds (or for how long should I wind the watch) to get a full 80 hours reserve built up? I frankly don't know why people hate the reserve meters, I think it would be great if they put on the back of this movement..
That said, assuming I'm winding it enough, and it's running this fast... any suggestions on how to get it regulated without sending it out for weeks to GS? |

Unfortunately the 9SA5 has had numerous complaints about performance being out of specified bounds. And on a few occasions, owners have reported the watches coming back from re-regulation and still performing out of bounds.
Given the novel design of the movement and escapement, I wouldn't take it to a non-GS watchmaker. GS are struggling to regulate these movements themselves, and given that this is a new architecture, I'd advise caution when taking it to a third party. Mine was running between +5 and +7spd so I got "lucky" since that is within bounds, but I've chatted with other owners who were seeing close to +20 spd too. Some quick tests you can do to be sure: (a) Wear the watch for a week with a moderately active lifestyle and track it using an app like WatchTracker - that should give you a good estimate of "real world" accuracy. (b) Pop it on a timegrapher and measure accuracy over a few of the typical positions. (c) De-magnetize it But the reality is likely that you've got to experience first hand the growing pains of the new 9SA5 caliber. |
