Grand Seiko too nice?
I just got a Grand Seiko SBGH297 Ginza and it is phenomenal. Finishing, hands, everything is perfect. Which has my OCD on overdrive about wearing it and potentially putting a scratch on it. I've got a lot of other valuable watches that I don't feel this way about, but there's something about the GS that has me nervous about ruining its 'perfection'. Anyone else feel this way or is it just me who is crazy (you don't have to tell me, I know!).

Yes I think part of it is due to the impeccable polishing. I am still learning to accept the small scratches but like you, I am more conscious with the GS. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You mind me asking how you were able to get one? As for GS, I’m a huge fan. There is something special about them. They offer a lot for the price point. |

Wear it and enjoy it. It may get the odd scratch, but that’s part of it.

Vintage GS from the 1960s usually look great...search out some pics of vintage 6245 and 6246 (with your case style) and you'll see that they grow old gracefully.

I know how you feel OP. Modern GS are so beautiful and expertly polished that they are basically works of art on the wrist. Other brands such as Rolex or Omega feel so much more toolish than GS. For this reason I didn’t wear my GS as much as it should have been worn…too sparkly in its Zaratsu perfection for me. I ended up selling it because it wasn’t getting enough wrist time.
I do hope to get another modern GS in the future, put probably one that is not as shiny (maybe titanium). I agree with OEB that vintage GS represents a classy yet subtle way to sport this awesome brand |
