Well it had to happen !!!!!!!
I bought a Panerai off ebay which was all correct in the pictures, right box papers etc etc. But what arrived was nothing like what I had bought. The nightmare really starts when you try to get your money back from paypal. Firstly have you ever tried walking into an AD and saying "i've bought this on ebay what do you think ?". The reply was, I agree with you sir its a fake. Great I said can you write me a letter stating that in your opinion its a fake, "no sir I can't do that".Then he went on about compamy policy bla bla bla. I went to several high end AD's and got the same story. So i've got a fake watch that AD's agree is fake but no one will put pen to paper. So I manage to get the Panerai service centre telephone number and gave them a call. Please send it in to us,with a letter saying what you need. So I rang them today and was told that they would need to send it to Switzerland and that would cost me 300 euro's for a report. The problem is paypal have given me a very short (two week) time limit to get the information back to them.Panerai have said it will be at least 4-6 weeks to get the watch report.Anyone in the UK know a Jeweller that would write a report on a fake watch.Paypal will not extend the deadline. I have also been told that Rolex UK do not offer this service so please never never buy a Rolex from ebay. There is no fool like an old fool !

Chu88y,
if you have a watchmaker that you deal with, he can write a letter, it does not have to be a Panerai AD. Also - who is the seller? I may be able to help.

Tough luck Ch88y. Hope you get it sorted. I'm afraid I don't know any Panerai jewellers to help you

Sorry to hear that chu88y.
Buying off eBay can be like walking through a field of land mines. I would take pictures of everything and try to provide paypal anything they need. |

I suggest you start a thread in the watchout section, wait for the expert advice and use this thread as ammunition for your Paypal dispute.
Bear in mind that Ebay has used this section to cancel auctions so it is obviously a credible source. You could also post the auction number and members could be asked to report the item as a fake, even though the pics are library. All should help.

Sorry to hear this Chu88y. Although I doubt this will help you this time, I always pay through paypal via my credit card and not my bank account for any large payments. This way in a event such as yours, I've a least got my credit card protection which unlike paypals, is effective. I've never had need to claim this way though.
Anyhow, good luck. |

seller and iten no longer listed/member.I'm trying not to get to stressed about it ATM as the mrs doesn't know yet. I've not got the watch to take to a watch maker. I have asked Panerai to return it,then I have been advised to take it to a jewellers for an insurance quote, they should then write me a letter to verify its a fake. The money is now locked by paypal until I send my info in. I was also advised that when buying high value items, to be careful of late deliveries,as the seller may have instantly transfered your money into a bank account, which takes 4/5 days to clear, once they have removed the money from that bank account paypal can't refund you what isn't there. So if your £2000 purchase hasn't arrived in three days i'd file a claim to block the paypal payment.
