For comparison I own a 16700 (still thinner and lighter than a 16710) and a Sub 124060. If I had to keep only one watch it would be the last GMT Master. Not even a close call to me.

I have a 16710 and a DSSD.
I really can't part with either. I love the technical, modern DSSD. But I also love the neo-vintage vibe and the versatility of a 5 digit GMT. I'd keep the sub and save for a 16710 (not the 126710) that way, you have the 6 digit modern features, and the 5 digit charm including the functional movement. |

I like the idea that others have suggested here of adding the GMT to your Sub for a nice combo.
However, if I were in your shoes and had to choose only one, I'd take the 5-digit GMT. It is lighter and arguably more comfortable, with the famous GMT complication that Rolex does so well. And the fact that 5-digits (and earlier) have survived the test of time is ample proof for me that they are battle-tested and robust. 6-digits "feel" more substantial, and that gives the owner reassurance. 5-digit track record and enduring usability is its own form of reassurance. Best wishes |

I absolutely love the 16710. It's slightly smaller and lighter than a 126710, and has the bulletproof 3185 (or 3186 the last couple of years) movement.

I’d rather have the old GMT than a new regular Sub, but that’s because I like some color on my watches. That said, I’d rather have a new Pepsi than either.

16710. It's like James Mason vs Laurence Fox.

I have a 16710 and it’s one of the most versatile Rolex with the two bracelets and the three bezels and the faded ones. I love it BUT I think coming from a 126610 it’s a downgrade in terms of build quality (hollow links vs full links, old clasp, aluminium bezel vs ceramic). Once you are happy for the downgrade there are for sure very appealing things on the 16710. If you find an unpolished one or a repolished but very well done you’ll have the chamfers / bevels, the V brushing on lugs that are so appealing to me. The case proportions are perfect too! And it’s a very light and comfortable watch.

If only one have to be decided, I would buy that specific 16710 probably Z series like mine and with rectangular dial, no doubts for me.

I’m a pilot too and have several Rolex’s I’d Keep it and save for the GMT. The 5 digits do wear lighter and smaller and they feel lesser quality as someone pointed out due to the hollow links and lighter clasp but still a great watch.
What about getting a Tudor GMT or a new Black Bay Pro, great watches for the money? |
