Yes or no - should I get it?
Hi all.
I had set a finite number of watches that I would like to own. I like Rolex so it will be part of my collection. Over the years I have considered various types. I always wanted a blue dial. My regret years ago was not getting a 2-tine sub mariner when I had the chance to get one at half the price of what they go for now. At this rate it will continue to keep going up 49-60k in 5 years time Because it already doubled in 7 years. Anyway, I found a nice, weighty Citizen dial which has good water resistance (I am never going to get the watch wet so I guess it doesn’t matter). The weight and size is good. The second hand and movement is not automatic so the hand doesn’t sweep. I prefer a sweeping hand. The newer models sweep but are smaller dials at half this blue dials weight. Those feel way too light. This eco drive loses between 10-20 seconds a day, some Rolexes lose 2 seconds a day or near that. Yes it’s apples & oranges. But so is the price. To be honest with the price of 2 cars for 1 sun mariner, unless I win the lottery, It is way out of my budget for now. I took a look at other brands. Citizen appear like a more solid build for the same price range as a Seiko. One go to Tags and higher it starts going out of my budget. I so far have not seen other models with a blue dial that are appealing under $800. What do you think, should I get it,? it’s a studdering tick..pause..tick…pause..tick like a grandfather clock tick as opposed to the sweeping motion.

Eco drive loses 10-20 seconds a day? Are you sure about that spec? My Eco-Drive states +/- 20 seconds in a month.

Eco drives are all quartz? It shouldn’t be losing time like that.
I’ve got an eco drive chrono for when I travel and don’t want to show off flash, it’s a great underrated watch. Enjoy it! |

Thanks gnuyork
Hi I downloaded the manual. It loses around 15 seconds a month. So that’s ok.
I see if you also can expose the dial to direct light to charge the watch. Sunny day direct sunlight charges faster. Looks like a good winner. The manual stTes need to set the crown to the time changing position for that charging feature to activate.

If blue dial is important and you like automatic and Rolex why not just get the Milgauss GV blue dial and use your existing Milgauss as part of the deal. Just an Idea

Hi I really did thought of that. I find it quite painful on the idea of owning 2 of the same watch model. I couldn’t even see myself getting 2 sub mariners. That particular shade of blue-green really grabs me. If I could not find any white dial that reaches out and grabs my attention, then I “might” get the white Milgauss, but I would need to spend an awful considerable time examining other white dials. I set a life goal of getting 6 dials. There is no hurry for a specific one. What I do know is I will not get another black dial. The GV covers that.
One would be a white dial. One would be blue but maybe 2. Pure gold or higher value alloy would be a showstopper. Also a diamond filled dial. As much as the materials are worth it’s weight in gold, (pun half intended), I could allocate those funds towards my next watch instead. Leather straps are not quite practical for me, leather wear & tear is ridiculously terrible. Prime example are wallets. A date on the dial, is something I can take or leave, not fussed. A watch of my birth year is definitely one for the set. One day when I visited a Rolex AD in London, they stocked pre loved, did not know they could do that but they did. I nearly got that dial except the year was out by 2 years. Quite the deal breaker. But thinking back then it was far more affordable than it would be today. At this rate most Rolexes will rise by 10-fold in 10 years time. So it will force me to get other brands. New watches are released every year, so I might find something I like. The 2 tone sub mariner is one on my radar but the shade of blue is electric blue on the 2007 model. For 2-3 years 2008, 2009 or so they changed to shade of blue to a more Matt, navy blue shade. Less appealing to me. Back then could get one for 13k. Now forget about it unless you have 28+, I can see these go over 50 soon. I did originally looked for a Hulk coloured dial, but the Citizen model was too small and half the weight of the blue alternative different model. If the dial is super light, I won’t wear it. I need to feel like I am wearing a watch. My preferred size is close to GV. Not smaller.

Dual tone sub over 50k soon? Doubt it. I’m pretty sure it’s not even selling at 28k now with how much Watch price has fallen recently.

Depends where
Depends on many factors…
1. What country, region and city. 2. Depends if it is AD or elsewhere 3. What demand and availability, shops still want to make money 5. Which currency are we using? 6. Local competitors, if you have very few competitors, you can drive up the price. They gas stations do that in regional areas. What, you don’t like the 20% mark up for your fuel? Yep nearest other station is 2 hours away, good luck with that.

If you have a scratch then getting something else wont scratch it.
The market is slowly settling & hopefully it will align where it left off 5 years ago |

Yes and pieces will come and go. It’s being at the right place at the right time. Mixed bag, regrets from not getting when could or impulse purchase on something that ended up not meeting expectations.
I guess the best is to really be able to physically pick up the time piece and handle it and use a good magnification loupe to look through the detail. Try it on make sure it feels right. Getting much feedback from other owners gives perspective

I would say the watch loses more than that - it would be hard to move , so I would consider it a sunk cost Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Well the directions Rolex and Tudor is trending. There is no way anyone new can go to an AD and get a piece that they want without being put on a list to say “expression of interest”.
This is why 99% of buyers move onto another brand.

Don’t repeat the same thing you had with the blue dial and then later regret. If you’re enthusiastic about getting it, then I think you should. It’s actually a good purchase too.
