Hallelujah to the demise of investment threads
Yes, they were tiresome. Yes, they were tedious. Now it’s all over we can now switch to Rolex as a remedy to run away inflation.
Rolex have always been a great hedge against that evil and since it’s not an investment anymore people can wear the watches in the interim.

Isn't using watches as a medium of avoiding inflation... an investment? Seems contradictory, in my opinion.

Isn't a thread on no more investment threads an investment thread? Are you going through withdrawals?

You are your own worst enemy. Everyone was quiet and you had to bring it up.
Rolex as an investment was always folly unless you are yourself a renowned grey dealer or selling on the top auctions - Christie's, Phillips, Bonhams... etc... As many long time collectors here know, there is a 15% difference between all the list prices and the actual net price. Transaction cost was so damn high. But of course, the margin was large enough to be worth it. ALOT of the prices have been soft through this time unless you had a large audience to sell to. Rolex basic stainless down recently, but not that bad. It's been insane to me how resilient this basic black Rolex Submariner is to market forces. But it's important remember Rolex itself also increased prices 15% during this time. They've pretty much proven liquidity through this recent run. They will continue to be mentioned as investment pieces. I don't really consider them to be so. Can't trade enough volume for me to consider increased market prices a significant gain. But, it sure feels better than taking a bath everytime you're ready to trade up. |

People get so triggered at any mention of value on a site devoted to discussion of luxury items that cost five or six figures.
Seems a little crazy. |

All this nonsense is getting either binned or bounced into "Watch Out". This section has become a breath of fresh air. Well, nearly. |
