DD40: platinum ice blue romans vs rose gold olive romans?

Which do you prefer aesthetically? Both fluted.

Yes platinum is the top tier for Rolex which may sway, but hype and marketing aside which do you think looks nicer visually?

The RG Olive is the best looking Rolex, ever, IMO. I hope to own one someday.

Both look gorgeous, I have RG Olive dial but I still plan to get Platinum D-D also.

Plat. D-D cost a lot more money than RG D-D, I think RG D-D worth more for the money that you spend.

I’m not even sure how to answer this one.

On one hand I find the platinum an absolute stunner and very unlike any other watch with that ice blue dial. It’s a showstopper. No question. On the other hand, I’d actually buy the rose gold model instead of it as I prefer my DDs to be yellow or rose gold.

Tough one..

They are both stunning in their own right.

Tough choice but I would vote RG Olive

Never really liked the platinum day-date. Sold the only one I ever owned. I do like the RG-Olive one though!

I own the RG and DD platinum smooth bezel with bags. Platinum all day everyday, not even close to me as the owner and person wearing it.

Now on the other hand when you ask ppl who do NOT own either they choose rose gold 90% of the time.

A week ago I tried this one, together with the simpler YG champagne dial no diamonds.

While I kind of dislike the diamond bezel on the DD40, once I put the watch on my wrist it completely disappeared and felt like 'it's home'. The RG here with the olive green dial is pretty darn sweet.

The dealer I visited also had a DD40 YG green dial plus two platinum ice blue dial ones, one of which was the one with Arabic hour markers. The ice blue dial is staggering in person but of course to go the Pt950 way one needs to be in peace with the increased weight as well as with the premium (if not buying from an AD).

Why does wearing it change your mind? I'd think that if you want the aesthetic appeal the rg and olive combo would pop more. Do you prefer the weight of the Pt?

I own neither but I have owned a Daytona 116505 RG, an A. Lange-Söhne Datograph Pt950, a 5196J, etc. So experience is something relative, in my view at least.

Having said that, experience is mandatory at this level and people who have in the past voted with their own wallet are indeed most suitable in making a recommendation here...

For the sake of good order pictures I posted earlier were taken at a grey dealer in Dubai, U.A.E. a week or so ago. The RG DD40 w/ the diamond bezel was listed at $110k if I recall correctly...

Have owned the RG Olive, the dial against the RG case is simply perfection, especially with the RG markers. Would take it in a heartbeat over the platinum.

Put it towards a 15202OR, prefer the RG on AP and the respective bracelet.
