Every wear your Rolex in the...
Shower or a hot tub? I think I remember long ago being told that wearing a watch in a hot tub was a no no due to the heat, any truth to this? I normally do not wear my watch in a bath, hot tub or shower but I have started to shower with my watch about once a week to give it a good cleaning After a good scrubdown it looks very sparkley! I know I'm insane, what can I say?

Hot tub is not a problem at all. It should only be 104 degrees F in there.
A hot day in Vegas or Disneyland is hotter than that. I have had mine in many times, no ill effects at all.

Yes, but make sure it's exactly 104ºF ONLY. One degree more and the watch will melt!!

I've heard that continuous exposure to the heat of a hot tub can prematurely erode the rubber gaskets. Also, if you're swimming/diving a lot with your watch on, you should get it serviced more frequently than the suggested five years to ensure your oyster isn't compromised. |

Good point(s).
Haven't actually worn the Rolex for quite some time now. I would also guess the chlorine might prematurely age the rubber gaskets also.

I will add to all these great answers by saying you should check the seals on your watch (do a pressure test) every year regardless if you plan on doing any types of water activities. As for the hot tub and temp worries, I am of the school of thought that your watch is tougher than you are, if you arent melting then either should your watch.......

Rolex has stated wearing your watch in a hot tub won't hurt it a bit.

My 2 cents: I wear it all day in some unusual (non watch friendly) conditions. I live @ beach, so sand is EVERYWHERE. I also take it scuba diving, snorkeling, pool and hot tub; not to mention airplanes and on site visits to dusty locations. Because of my job, I am on top of buildings, waste water treatment systems and civil work sites. I service my watches every 5-7 years and never ever had a problem at all. Enjoy your timepieces!

On the days I wear my Rollie, I don't take it off for showering or swimming.

This should answer your question:

Wicked ad.
I don't take my Rolex off when I'm swimming, bathing, hottubing, the works. I rinse it off after pools, oceans and hottubs to remove chlorine, salt, etc. No problems so far. Before my Rolex, I had a Heuer that I subjected to more than that without problems, so why should my Rolex handle it any different? :) |

I had my first Rolex in 1970. I wore it 24/7, motorcycling, in and out of AZ heat and A/C, and never had a problem. The only issue was in a momentary lapse of reason I traded it at a pawn shop in 1976 for a new stainless steel Ruger handgun, which I still have. I'd rather have the Rolex, but we all make mistakes.

Great Ad! Hey, now I can use my Rolex when I cook! Next time I need to boil something I'll just toss the watch in at the same time. :>

I wore mine in the hot tub several times this weekend. It's not going to hurt it.

I don't know that I would worry about hot tubs particularly. But I would be concerned about the shower. Not because of any concern about water resistance or wearing out the gaskets but simply because you might bang it on the tile.
