Could my bracelet screw be cross threaded?
Greetings!
Got my 114270 back into rotation after a few months, and saw that I’ve been gaining a few pounds, and needed to add an extra link to the bracelet. Went to the box, picked up the extra link, and when I went to unthread it, each other half turn it would offer mild resistance, and each other half turn, in between resistances, would be quite smooth. Didn’t think much of it, but checked the threading on both the link and the screw and they both seemed fine, albeit the threading on the link seemed to be a bit “dirty”. When I went to install it, having somewhat cleaned it a bit with a toothpick, and using the little counterclockwise turn to find the proper threading alignment, the same pattern of alternating of resistance and smoothness each half turn repeated, but the screw is sitting flush on both sides and seems firm enough. Would this be just Loctite residue, or could I have cross threaded the screw? I’d suppose it’d never sit flush on both ends of the link if it was cross threaded, but I’ve been paranoid since. Thanks! |

I think its the loctite residu.
Almost impossible to cross thread. From experience the screwdriver will fail before the screw pin. If it is flush and you applied a tiny drop loctite than nothing to worry.

Agreed. Loctite residue.
If it is in fine leave it. Don’t do what I do in such situations and keep messing around until I break something.

Probably the Loctite or a bit of grit.

I have this same tendency, but after destroying the crown threads on one of my watches, I’ve learned to resist the urge to keep messing. Can’t say I’m not tempted though hahaha.
