IF you dive, they're both great tool watches. Great legibility in less-than-optimal conditions and virtually bulletproof. When not diving, a smaller "onshore" watch makes far more sense.

My argument in my write-up is they released it because it would be their "Moonwatch." The engraving on the caseback showing the professional accomplishment does remind me of the Moonwatch.

Meaning, Rolex tries to tie one model to one of the greatest and daring oceanic explorations in human history. The deep-sea exploration and the space program both include building and testing crafts that go into virgin and inhabitable worlds. In both cases, crew members sit cramped inside a module untethered from any human rescue possible, staring through a window into a dark, black emptiness in an environment as strange and hostile as any to be found on other planets.

Look at the picture below of Lt. Don Walsh holding the flag at the bottom of the ocean floor. Almost looks like it could have been taken in a space capsule. (It's also the picture equivalent of Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary atop the Everest.)
