Nice to meet you!
Hi everyone!
I'm thrilled to join this community! I started my watch journey fairly recently, pretty much by accident. Seven years ago, as I was randomly procrastinating on some social media, I stumbled upon a picture of a watch in my feed. I had zero interest in watches back then (I didn't even own one) and yet, I became obsessed with this watch. I had never seen anything like this -- it was so insanely beautiful, but also and especially so different from what I pictured as a traditional watch. I did some research on it and found its name: Grand Lange 1. Unfortunately, I also saw its price, cried for a bit, and painfully forgot about it. Several years later, I went to a dealership with a friend obsessed about watches who wanted to show me his holy grail. I wasn't particularly interested in going as I still had no interest in this topic, but I had nothing else planned that weekend so I joined him. Turns out, his holy grail was the Lange 1. I immediately recognized it and found the picture I saved of it many years ago. I couldn't believe it was the same watch, and I couldn't believe how absurdly nice it was in real life. I was literally shocked. How on earth is it possible for a human being to produce a mechanical object that perfect? Once again, I tried to forget about it because I couldn't justify spending that kind of money on such a "useless object". And then of course, I saw it again a couple of years later as if this watch was following me and, this time, I couldn't resist. What's changed in the meantime (aside from more generous finances) is that I learned a bit more about the brand, but also about watches in general. I started reading Hodinkee, this very forum (thank you!), watching videos, etc. and when I saw the Lange again, it didn't feel like an impulse buy anymore. I was prepared for it, and I felt I knew at least a little bit what I was doing, and why. It helped me rationalize this expensive purchase. I'm so glad I went through this journey, because this object brings me joy every single morning. |

Welcome and congrats, now if your timepiece does not give you joy each morning get another. The Grand Lange 1 is in a class of it's own.
