Bring Back the Tudor Oyster Prince!

I was reading this article in Hodinkee about the British North Greenland Expedition today. All I could think about while reading it was how cool the Oyster Prince was.

To commemorate this event they brought out the North Flag and the Ranger. Both are nice watches, but the Oyster Prince is way nicer.

Tudor is the ultimate homage brand. Why not scrap the entire 1926 line - all 104 variations - and replace it with a 38mm Oyster Prince on a cool vintage strap. This watch would sell like hot cakes!

With all the really nice, unique watches that Tudor makes, I too can't see why they have all those 1926 models - and even the low end BB models. Seems to cheapen the brand when put against the BB58s, the Pelagoses, Rangers, etc.

I completely agree on that. It makes no sense to make 104 variations on a watch that nobody seems to buy. I've been on various watch forums for years and I don't think I've ever seen or heard anyone mention "incoming Tudor 1926!!"

Tudor still makes a wide range of Prince and Princess models (literally dozens) in a variety of metals and sizes, but they only seem to be available in a few Asian markets.

Incidentally, Prince was originally just Tudor-speak for Automatic. That's why you see 'Prince' on vintage Tudor Submariners, Rangers and other models.

Why not get a OP 34 114200 white dial and live happily ever after? Everything good about that Tudor, in an organically evolved modern watch, without the bad faux retro aspect a new Tudor version would surely possess.

So 'Prince' was auto, and 'Royal' was hand-wind?

Royals were all hand-wind, as far as I know, but not every hand-winder had Royal on the dial, whereas every automatic had Prince on the dial (for many years).

For example, the only hand-winding Tudor Sub (ref 7923) just said Oyster on the dial, not Oyster Royal, but all other automatic Tudor Subs said Oyster Prince.

I would buy it in 36 mm! The release on the anniversary needed to have a white polar dial not the Ranger we got.

And you can import them for very reasonable prices. I don't keep up with exchange rates, but picked up a TT Date Day in 2021 for like $2,400. After buying a new Rolex for $17,000 from an AD, that feels like nothing.

I like a couple of the Tudor 1926 line. I really like the case style. I would LOVE to see one with stick indices though. My wife also likes one particular variation of the 1926.

Thinking about picking one up for her around February 14th. I think they would make a great casual wear watch and you really can't beat the price for this decent made watch.

Biggest negative for me is they are not equipped with a COSC movement. Just a Sellita. But at this price point, their not bad.

I have been giving some thought of adding a Tudor to my collection. Maybe a BB58 or the Ranger. Or maybe both! But most likely pick up something like a OP for work. Nothing polished so much.

There's versions of the 1926 and the glamour day date look pretty similar, but with days and dates.
