@Springer, can I ask why you had to wait before posting that it was stolen? Was it due to the insurance situation? Sad to say its probably been long sold now, and it's disgusting that Fed Ex and/or the insurer wouldn't stand up and take responsibility. |

I keep my own log of such reports and am slightly puzzled by the appearance of the same watch in this 2019 thread :
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...hlight=5515833 on whose second page is the following : "UPDATE................UPDATE Today I received a call from my watchmaker in Dallas who told me that he received a U.S. Postal Service package on Monday that contained the missing/stolen watch that was the subject of this thread. According to my watchmaker, the package was fully intact and did not appear to have been opened or tampered with in any way. The GMT 1675 was fully secure within the package. The owner of the watch was notified by the watchmaker that the package was delivered and, to say the least, he was ecstatic. Today I talked with the owner of the watch, and according to him, he has not received any notification from the USPS that the package was located and delivered - which I find appalling. Additionally, he has yet to hear anything from USPS as to where his package has been for the past three months!!!!!!!!!!!!" Am I missing something? Was it lost during transit in 2018, quickly relocated....but then lost again recently in almost identical circumstances? Insta : haywood_milton_rolex

This is not my experience and I think it quite exceptional, if this is what has happened.

Odd coincidence noted.
As a note of balance on the FedEx narrative - Collect on Delivery isn’t available for overnight service. When I’m shipping it is solely overnight. Granted, I don’t have nearly the volume active sellers do. Hadn’t seen similar incidents noted by the boutique sellers who use FedEx overnight. With their collective volume one would think lightning would have struck one of them in the past 12 years. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

During the course of this, the owner decided to sell the watch and I purchased it back from him. I sold the watch later to another forum member where it was stolen in California. Nothing mysterious here at all Haywood. Maybe next time you have a question or concern, you'll give me the courtesy of a message if you need a further explanation.

What does...if that is what happened mean? I don't care for the insinuations by that statement at all.

No insinuation intended whatsoever. At that point in the thread we could only surmise what had happened.

Don't worry JP - we all here know you are a complete gentleman. We are lucky to have you in this community.
Bummer about the loss on this GMT. Hopefully some of the local dealers in San Diego will keep an eye out. |

The repeated loss under similar circumstances is most unusual and I felt my "double-take" was not unreasonable, but the written word has rather allowed it to be misconstrued.

I can see your perspective and JP's. I think the casual reader might get it misconstrued and I think that's all cleared up now. We need folks like you two to help teach the rest of us. I would think in a small town like SD there is a chance it will pop up at a watchmaker shop or with a dealer.

JP has made invaluable contributions to this site with his in-depth knowledge of Rolex-Swiss horology.
As to Nickle, the definitions of US and UK Immigration statutes remain very similar. New Scotland Yard is still on Bond Street. Persons lacking in moral character or with extensive criminal records are excluded. Interstate theft of Rolex watches falls under the jurisdiction of the FBI, though value and circumstances are factors considered. |

bigotry /ˈbɪɡətri/ noun obstinate or unreasonable attachment to a belief, opinion, or faction, in particular prejudice against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group. If that isn’t what you meant, then word it better. Consider that a response to your unnecessary PM too. Boasting about your service isn’t a good look either. Perhaps we should stop clogging up this thread now though… |

I doubt high end watch theft is perpetrated even minimally by folks that "came into the US without documentation or vetting."
Since SOG brought it up, maybe he can post some evidence of his suspicions in the Open Discussion forum...that, or refrain from unsubstantiated accusations. |

Thanks -TuRo;
You are right of course. Correct me if I am a bit off on an incident that occurred in London, I think-a bit ago. An individual was attacked outside a watch shop there and badly injured or KIA. Was that an AD shop or is my memory still faulty? We colonial law enforcement/miltary types never respond to criticism of what we know is the law of the land. Your correction was quite civilized, which is what I have come to appreciate while in the UK and Ireland. I do miss the late 1960s and early 70s, when I first purchased my initial Rolex 1680 Submariner with 4 crystals at the China Fleet Club in Hong Kong. I think that I shall never own a Submariner without drilled lugs. The latest being a 1960 5512 gilt dial specimen. Cheers. |
