Just a watch. You get one in the future if you want.

The perfect Rolex and the one I wear pretty much every day. So versatile and all one needs. So, I feel your pain. But, don’t worry: others will come along.

Dont feel bad as others have stated. I have been asking for a 116505 from my A D for years and finally got a Daytona offer. A 116519. Already have a 116515. So I dont and didnt see the need/desire for 2 on OysterFlex without at least having a full bracelet model.

My S A wasnt exactly thrilled with me based on all the asking but it wasnt what I had been asking for and 34k aint exactly chump change. Guess he can be upset and never offer me another watch if he wants but I aint spending "my hard money" to please him or keep him happy.

Its only a freaking watch at the end of the day. Plus I have a decent enough collection that if I never add another I'll be just fine....

Dont worry they all say that. Some A D's act as if they are doing us a favor so how are we say no. Just a watch. I got a similar reaction. Whatevs

You ended up with the coral 41 OP?

A watch purchase is pretty low on the totem pole when you have other things to worry about.

Just let the AD know you can't buy for personal reasons, and would like to revisit the opportunity in a few months.

Look at the positive side.

You've just proved to your AD you're that you are not a flipper.

I don't think the 36 Explorer is that hard to get if you ever circle back to it. You made the right decision OP!

Anybody getting themselves into bother financially over a watch is making life unnecessarily hard. Good call to wait.

Just be honest with the AD. If they are any good, I am sure they will understand. Best of luck! I am sure you will get another chance to own it down the road

Agreed. I don’t understand when people are averse to any and all financing. 0% interest is free money and gives you leverage to keep your cash and use in other ways. Can make a lot of sense.

No biggy be honest and say your financial situation has changed and they will sell it to the next customer who wanted the watch.

I turned down a Pepsi when my SA mistakenly thought I wanted one. He called me all happy that we have your Pepsi for you! I thought about flipping it but that's not my style and I just passed on it.

I had no interest in the watch and plan to buy a Batman down the line when the time is right.

There's financing and what I call "personal" financial strategy. When it comes to watches, avoid the first, but by all means undertake the second.

For me the bottom line is: with any luxury item, if I can't pay for it all now, without foregoing any needs (or potential emergency needs), I can't afford it. Period. Luxury items are about spending objectively frivolously on something you don't need. So I'm averse to financing them as a way of acquiring when I don't have extra money to spend on them.

Now, for some, taking advantage of specific interest rate arbitrage opportunities is part of a money management strategy. In that case, go for it! If you can get a year's worth of financing at a lower rate than a 12-month CD, then yes, it's free money.

Disagree, there's no such thing as free money. While 0% is great and allows us to put money into other money earning pursuits, it's not great for impulsive people or for people that don't have the money in the first place.

For OP, definitely OK to hold off on the purchase. It's only a watch, you will scratch the itch down the road!

You failed to explain why it isn't free money.

I open a card and do a balance transfer at 0% that I didn't need. Invest in CDs for the term of the special rate. Free money.

What card offers you a balance transfer with no fees?

Hypothetical. Even at 3% fee there's still 2% free money, no?

That’ll be a short-term “ding” on your credit score.

Even those credit access cheques take a few percent off the top. Actually, do these even exist anymore?

So it is free money and everyone wants to cherry pick and argue is the final answer it looks like.

Yes, it's free money. But many people will end up giving back the free money, plus a lot more, by continuing to finance once the introductory rate has gone away. It's free money to those who can afford the things in the first place.

You made the right decision.

Congratulations, you will be fine. You can get it latter and it shouldn’t hurt your chances.
