6240 Daytona

Long time member, first time post. I wanted to start a dedicated thread to the first Oyster Daytona with its' Mark 0 brass screwdown pushers. First to have Mark 1 Bakelite bezel. The true prototype of the modern Daytona, the 6240!

No four-digit Daytonas had crown guards, thankfully!

Easy swish. Less affluent folks like me can only afford a 1970 Tudor homeplate.

MK 0 pushers with the acrylic bezel. The Bakelite bezels were on the early GMT’s I believe. Great looking 6240!

Nice ROC dial!!

You are correct, Bakelite first on GMT 6542 (Pussy Galore). 6240 was the first Daytona to have the Bakelite inserts of the four digit Daytonas. Set the style/aesthetic that yielded the current ceramic bezel, IMHO.

Thank you. What I meant is the 6240, 6263 never had Bakelite inserts, they are made of acrylic. It’s a different material than Bakelite.

Correct thanks for putting it right bakelite was not used on inserts 37/37.5 Daytona or 39.5 Monte Carlo - bugs me when dealers/sellers use that term :-)

Yeah, HP's are mere back-off-the-sofa money @ £35k

You just dont see the Mark 0 brass/steel versions which have a very slight flat top, they've seen some proper stopwatch winding action as that brass is really showing through !
