Yes that's right; reference 43031, with 43031 being the open-worked variant. There are still a few for sale on some websites today, although those are latter variants from the 90s. Btw, an interesting reference point for me was from ACM linked
here, which may be good reading material for you. I had considered an AP QP as well, but given how the emergence of VC's QP was closer to my birth year, I felt it had more importance.

I would say there is no real rush in acquiring one. Then again, after 10 years, I really did take my time. We don't all follow the same "buying principles" so as long as it makes you happy, that's the right watch to get

Indeed, a huge plus for me was how early dials were champagne (versus eggshell white and later on, white). I feel it does give the watch a warmer tone and (I am biased here) wears well on my wrist.
The excitement of wearing this has been very real!
