Finally bought a fuchsia insert. Legit¿?
Hi everyone,
I previously asked a question about fuchsia inserts and based on your response I did my homework and decided to buy this one. Is this a legit one? So many fonts on fuchsias get me confused. The back is fuchsia also, so no issue there :) Thank you for your help!! |

I wish I could say yea with certainty, but I can’t as I don’t know much about those. I want to say yea, but like Mo said” we need to see the back as well”. It looks similar to some I have seen. I’ve never owned one, but plan on it in the future. Looks like a beaut though.

Below I send a photo of the back, yes, it is fuchsia. It's already mounted in the bezel :)
Sorry for the light. Is better at home, inside than outside. It's raining, so couldn't get a nice sunlight. My question is: can't that be faked? I trust 100% the seller/dealer. And the question is not regarding this particular insert. I mean, fuchsia on the back is a condition, but knowing this it could be faked, right? I have also noticed various fonts sizes Just trying to start a conversation and get to know better this late (Mark1) 60s insert. |

Showing the back side is not just for seeing the color, it must be shown unmounted to see what the edge looks like, if any unusual things (like a hole usually seen on aftermarket ones) etc.
You don't have to show yours, just wrote it for future readers. yes, the color can be faked ofc Last edited by swaini3; 31 January 2023 at 08:27 AM.. Reason: added info. |

Maybe this is a stupid question, but: If this was originally red, and time+exposure turned it to fuchsia, how does the back become fuchsia?

From what I've read and investigated. Is not something that faded to fuchsia. It has to do with the mix applied at that specific time in Rolex history (1.7-1.8M serials / mark1 - to be precise). We are talking about 1968-1970/71 aprox.
Rolex did not have one supplier and they actually corrected this "error" in the mix that gave this color "fuchsia" and not red. So that's why is so expesinve and scarce. Did not last many years, but it happened in that era. We need to take into consideration that around that timeframe on the Subs and Daytonas their dials turned tropical (sub-dials on Daytonas). It was a time of experiencing with materials and colors for Rolex. Thanks to that "trial-and-error" is why they produce nowadays such amazing pieces in Ceramic. My query was more related to legitimacy of the font, since I've seen fat fonts, thin fonts, serif and non-serif. To me, that's a lot. |
