In my eyes 6119R is not a pretty watch. It looks as if they set the 39mm size first (which is very large for a basic Calatrava) and then started thinking about which design elements might help using all that space. In the end they put too much stuff around the edge that doesn't look good combined (for me, anyway) - baton markers, hour plots, rail track, and a hobnail bezel. Those bezels come and go but I don't find them attractive in the least.
Also not impressed by the 6119's new manual movement. Yes, it fills the case and has plenty of power reserve but I find the bridge layout unattractive compared to Patek's older (and admittedly much smaller) manual movements (and many manual movements from other brands including VC and Journe). Cannot comment on the Cellini and would probably look at Lange and VC first assuming that a Journe CS may not work re wait time / budget. If new Patek dress watch I'd rather get an automatic 5227 although not the biggest fan either. Another one I'd consider is the new no date salmon dial Chopard L.U.C 1860 - for me probably the most beautiful release all around from this year's Watches & Wonders. |
