My AD said pretty much the same thing in that "back in the day", he was more or less able to configure watch and bracelet combinations (within reason) from new according to customer choice, e.g. Sub bracelets onto GMTs and vice versa. He turned up a GMT 16700 for me with GMT bracelet but with a Sub clasp/dive extension, presumably as a retro fit from stock when parts etc were not the nightmare of today.
