Bypass the SA and go straight to the manager. Respectfully of course. Level with them and ask them to level with you. Do that at as many ADs as you can. Possibly give 2 options, sub or GMT.

But without a little purchase history, not sure they are going to budge. However, never hurts to ask and the worst they can say is “no”. May not hurt to buy a little something for your wife, but understand if you don’t want to go down that route, it doesn’t guarantee a thing.

FYI - a black sub date on grey market is around $2-2.5k over retail+tax (depending on your state).

Have you checked in monthly? I second the suggestion to deal with the store manager and not just any old SA. In my limited experience waiting a year for a submariner seems extreme. I got the call in one month exactly with a spend history of a measly $600 on a Hamilton Khaki Field watch. I’d say get the sub and then put your name down for a GMT. OR, as was also suggested, visit a minimum of 3 other Rolex Certified Jewelers and show your interest in a GMT II. It is a little bit of work to buy any Rolex at retail. I know people who want to call or email once and then believe they’re in queue on “the list”. Unfortunately, in today’s climate, this just isn’t the case. I honestly believe that there are good ADs out there who, when shown legitimate interest and passion, will come through.

Zero purchase history and wanting a gmt? Spolier alert, 99.9% chance it’s not going to happen.

It's almost been a year wait for the sub. Just go grey.

To me it's worth the premium to pay for something I want "now" vs waiting.

Ask yourself, "Would I pay an extra $500 per month for the next two years (or however long the wait is) in order to just have it today?" if you know what I mean

I think a CHNR could happen, but i don't think a BLNR will. I think you can forget about BLRO.

My friend, I'm a retired Rolex AD and I find the current state of affairs to be totally offensive. Holding the customer hostage until he buys a bunch of merchandise he probably doesn't want is counter any moral grounds ... period.

Yeah, I made a profit in the 60s, 70s and 80s and sold every single one of my Rolexes at a solid 25% off of MSRP. Hey, I basically split the profit with the fine folks who close to do business with me. And I felt great about it.

Frankly, if I was a buyer today, I'd absolutely refuse to play the ADs immoral game and buy gray.

Obviously, you have to "buy the seller," like the fine "Trusted Seller" grays on this forum.

Good luck with your Rolex purchase and congratulations on your new "Dream Job."
