rolex 16613 is acting up

I was hoping for some solid advice on my 16613. I am second owner, purchased new in 1996-1997. The watch has never been serviced, when i came to own it , no problems. ,moving forward a couple of months, I am unable to set the time or change the date. it feels like the crown is slipping ? gear not grabbing? It usually sat for long periods of time, with no use. I feel like I might be in for a substantial repair bill. Should I take it to rolex dealer or private third party? I just to wear and enjoy the watch. turn around quick as possible.

you're right - it needs service. it has been nearly 25 years. typical interval is 5-10.

if the watch has box and papers and came from a reputable seller, you are safe to send to rolex

if the watch is "watch only" i would not send it to rolex unless you are SURE it isn't stolen. If in doubt, i'd send that to Rolliworks

would you use a car that's not maintained for years, still using the original tires?

Should be just a normal service and they'll make the watch run like new. No big deal. The idea to sell a watch that you know is broken sounds like bad intentions.

I would call The Rolex Service Center in Dallas. My experience is that they have better customer service than the RSC in NY. They will walk you through what needs to be done to send them the watch. Follow the instructions or they will not accept the watch. You will get an estimate for review. Approve, pay and wait. Should be 6-10 weeks without any complications. You will get a Service Card back and a two year warranty. All is good and the only down side is the money for the service and the time it takes. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I decided to go the route of Rolex Ad repair, They quoted me around 1400-1500, rolex would determine the final price depending on the service it needed. 12 weeks more or less.

Probably a good choice with this fairly new model in Rolex years.

Could be something as simple as being extremely dry where the various pinions and wheels won't slide into place.

Rolex has all the parts to make it like new again.

I got the call today , my Rolex is ready to pick up. 1074.28 including tax. full movement service, new crystal, polish. The service included the hands, not sure if they were replaced or relumed? I think the overall estimate very reasonable considering the watch had never been serviced in 27 years. I feel like this was the right direction to go having Rolex do the service. will post pictures when I pick up.

I was able to pick up my 16613 serti today, very pleased with the outcome. Rolex replaced the crystal, crown, new hands ( I requested) full movement service and polish. two year warranty card with Rolex green pouch and service box. It didn't look like the same watch. Fast turn around.
