Submariner 5513 Insert
I'm a novice with vintage Rolex. Interested in getting a 1984 Submariner with Maxi dial. I was looking at this watch, which the seller states has original dial, hands, and insert. It looks like a Maxi IV and the handset seems to match. The insert I was having trouble identifying after looking through the guide on VRF. Looks to me most like a Mk6 from the guide, but the numerals aren't heightened. Any idea if this insert is original vs service and if service what type?

this looks like a service insert... it is certainly Rolex genuine but certainly not original to the watch....

As above.
I'd ask for UV shots from dial/hands/pip combo. Too even hues could be a hint of a paint/relume job. |

The best thing to do is to study the different inserts. Once you are familiar with the original inserts, the service inserts will be obvious.
This is a good introduction to the classic categories: https://www.watchprosite.com/rolex/r...49983.5769208/ This thread is extremely detailed and well researched. https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/vint...0.html#p601532

It looks like from the VRF thread the 4 from 1984 is most commonly flat Mk 7(could also be fuzzy Mk6 or fat Mk8). From the pictures it looks like the numerals were typically heightened or touching. Not sure if there was much variation in the height of numerals
