As I said on your previous post. I really enjoy my 36mm gold Day-Date. However, I purchased mine in 2015 before inflation.

You have to be the one to wear it everyday. Do what makes you happy and at some point you will have to rip off the band aid, that's how it is when spending that large amount of money.

Never, EVER borrow to buy a watch. You will regret it, and ultimately resent it

I asked the same exact thing! Its a really had one and wish there was something in between!

IMO they both look good!
IMO the 40mm doesn't look too big at all - if you like it go for it!
IMO if the 36mm feels to small - dont go for it as it might constantly nag!

I personally decided to change my expression of interest from the 36mm to the 40mm DD.

If you started out looking at Datejusts, is it mentally too late to circle back to those? They caught your eye for a reason.

I'd love a DD myself, but not at $40k given that just like you, I make around $140k and have a wife and one kid. I do well, but not $40k watch well IMO and I'm ok with that. The date complication is ultra cool, but not given the cost premium so I never allowed myself to even consider it given the price and instead am on the "list" for a pair of steel 36mm Datejusts for a total of $16k which I'm much more comfortable with.

That said, I look at my DJ purchases as a grail purchase and don't feel I'm missing out whatsoever...I say that to illustrate that I still support buying once and crying once, so if the 40mm DD is the one, you'll have to find a way to make it happen...but before that, try circling back to the DJ that originally caught your eye.

You have a very good, level-headed, attitude on watch purchasing.

And I know, it’s a luxury, I know, but I’m just putting all the cards on the table and being honest here.
Imho, if you think 38k is a down payment on a house, you should NOT buy either watch.

Not a bad idea. Might have to just reconsider a two tone DJ and get my gold fix that way for 12-14k

You could also probably find a five-digit TT Sub or GMT Serti dial (YG color w/stones) for that price. 40mm (and will wear smaller than the DD40 since it's not "all dial").

I’m not really into subs and I’ve had a GMT before. I liked the two tone datejust cause to me it’s the closest looking thing to a presidential day date

In that case, something else occurs to me, which may have come up in one of your other threads: If you’re going 36 anyways (which I think looks better from the pics), check out the 116238. Solid gold DJ36, but on a jubilee. Looks like you can save at least $5k of a comparable DD…

From any distance, nobody can tell the difference and the Jubilee is much, much less common, as it hasn’t come on a DD for decades and solid PM DJ36 a pretty uncommon watch.

If I was going to go down this route then I may as well get a 5 digit DD 18238 for around 15k

That's true, but the six-digit DJ will wear a bit bigger (due to the fatter lugs) and has a more modern clasp, but your point is more than valid.

The Day Date in 40mm looks wrong.

I think in 36mm is better proportioned, it is a shame that they market the 36mm as lady, because I would love to get a 36mm with the dials available for the 40mm

How do they market the 36’mm as a lady?
