1990(?) ladies Datejust - Hoping to get some feedback on service options
Hi all,
First post here, tried reading all of the rules beforehand but apologies if I missed anything. Have asked this question a few other places but haven't gotten any answers and heard this is a great forum so trying my luck here. My wife inherited this datejust from her grandmother and it's been sitting in a jewelry box for many years. I snuck it over to my AD to have it looked at for servicing and got the quote back below. Currently thinking of getting the overhaul service done, replacing the oscillator, foregoing the refinishing service, and am uncertain whether the hands and crystal actually need to be replaced. Photo of watch is attached. Huge thanks in advance. Calibre 2135 Serial Number L546817/1341437 Timepiece Reference Number 69174 Bracelet Reference 62510 Evaluation Oscillator is damaged- requires replacement Lume on hands has cracked- requires replacement Crystal has minor cosmetic imperfections Required: Overhaul Restoration Service Includes the disassembly, cleaning, adjustment and replacement of worn internal components. Includes all gaskets and case adjustments necessary to ensure the water resistance of the timepiece. 16 weeks from the date of approval is required for this process. Please be aware that delays may occur due to parts availability. $800.00 Required: Oscillator 2130-432 $290.00 Required: Hands Replacement 14-664 15-233 $89.00 Included: Complete Refinishing Service This process restores the appearance of the timepiece by removing imperfections/scratches from the metal. Deep scratches and dents may not be removed. Please be advised that this process involves removing a layer/s of metal. Frequently performing this process may negatively impact the structure of the related components being refinished. Discount for Foregoing Refinishing Service -$150.00 Optional: Crystal Replacement 25/206-CAR $133.40 |

I’d have them do it all, with a suggestion that they not over polish it.

I’m guessing the oscillator is the balance wheel? Aren’t movement parts included in the service usually?

Thank you both for the replies! Do I actually need to replace the hands and the crystal?
The service quote I got said the hands are required but crystal is optional. I would like to keep it as original as possible. TIA. |

It probably needs a new crystal. You are going to spend a lot, anyway, so have everything done. You will be glad you did. Also, post before and after pics, when you get it back. Kat Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
