There's no reason why things can't and won't go back to status quo of roughly 2019, but I also can't think of a reason things can and will go back to the status quo of roughly 2015 either.
COVID bubble was obviously temporary. But the hype and selective shortages had begun before that, in roughly 2017-2018. Meaning should you be able to walk in and buy most Datejusts and the occasional Explorer I and II? Of course. Submariner? Probably not, but you should be able to actually put your name down and get it in a year without buying other crap. Pepsi or Daytona? No. |

Great point on shortages beginning in 2017, I think that’s a valid point and a function of a very strong economy. No signs of the US economy slowing down substantially in 2023. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Lots of wealth continuing to be created ex-USA, esp India, which will probably be the next huge luxury watch market. We would probably need a global economic calamity to put a dent in Rolex demand.

Rolex is not stupid. They know the demand/supply which favors their current model will not last forever. I believe they got into the CPO not just to get extra revenue by beating out the grays on deals, but to keep prices high thru the CPO program. Watches in the CPO program have a higher asking price than a new watch in the display. They do this because they think they can get away with this pricing and right now they can.

I received the call on my 40mm Explorer in six weeks. Yes, six weeks no previous spend. I’m currently working on acquiring a Polar Explorer 2 and I fully expect an AD call within 90 days. Unless you’re looking for a sub, GMT, or white dial Daytona like everybody else, it’s not that difficult to get pieces right now.
