UK Dealers

After my last thread, I'm trying to decide if I want a BLNR GMT over a Datejust. If I do, then I'm not going to wait years for an AD to possibly sell me one.

I know there is a list of trusted sellers, but unless I'm missing something, they are all based in the US. Apologies if this is not allowed, but are there any good and trusted UK dealers?

I the uk EBay is ok for buying, but make sure you use plenty of common sense and buy through their authenticity guarantee scheme. Many grey market dealers are still kidding themselves, so don’t buy the first one that comes up. There are groups of facebook which are a useful resource for uk price info but I probably wouldn’t buy from any of the sellers myself.

UK Dealers

Watchfinder and Watchtrader UK are a couple of respected grey sellers in the UK, that I’ve dealt with personally. You’ll pay more but guarantee a good service and a genuine watch.

Other than that, yes there are many grey dealers out there, some good and others no so much. You’ll always find a cheaper model somewhere, but exercise caution especially when looking at cheaper versions. If it’s too good to be true, and all of that.

Another saying you’ll hear a lot around here is ‘buy the seller’. If you engage and they don’t fill you with confidence, move on.

Good luck.

Watches of Whitby, try Chrono 24 then filter location to UK, Swiss Link, Trotters, Luxury Watch Boutique ( think that’s what it’s called ) , Avanti Jewellers , Prestigious Jewellers and Glasgow Watch, they’re excellent price wise .. for grey market ..

Trotters? No way!

Wouldn’t touch those cowboys with a barge pole. Heard some horror stories about them, also a recent post on TRF didn’t show them in a good light at all.

W*tchCl*b and W*tchColl*ctors are probably the two that I found really hypocritical to deal with when I talked to them previously. When discussing about selling a watch, it’s always about how bad the market is and that they have the exact watch in storage at the back and find it hard to offload. When it comes to buying a watch from them, they are priced above the normal market value due to their “reputation”, and how the watch will be a “marvellous” investment going forward as they have bottomed. It’s pretty much the same for all dealers but I found those two to be extraordinarily hypocritical.

Don't use trotters- just read this thread and watch their videos. they're awful.

Would also avoid Watchtrader &co as below:

Another vote for GWS. Used them myself, both to sell a watch and buy a watch. Excellent service both ways.

Wow, I missed that thread. Sad to see a grey deader not *instantly* refund a watch that a customer isn't happy with. Wish there were a black-list that could easily be checked.

Wow. Just read that whole Trotters thread. Gobsmacked.

I know they are active on YouTube and Instagram etc. but I've never actually watched any of their content, I just assumed that they were one of the better greys in the UK.

Will definitely be avoiding them in the future!

Try kettle kids (London) and Blowers (Hull/London), Mark is great to deal with, I've known him now for 12+ years and have referred many people to him who have always been happy...

The Swiss Watch Co. in Chiswick is straightforward and fair to deal with. I've also used Tempo and Time. I highly recommend them both based on my experiences. WF tend to price high but they are more willing to haggle.

Did you answer your own question?

I say stick with the most popular Rolex, the Datejust.

Why not go grey for that?

Iconicwatches Blackburn, if they haven’t got the watch in that your looking for they will source it, it will only take a couple of weeks. I have purchased three watches from they, from 2015 to 2018. They have a brick’s & mortar shop in the centre of Blackburn town centre & are a joy to do business with. I am from Dublin & any time I’m in the market for a new watch I fly over from Dublin & no matter what series you are interested in they will source it, you can’t go wrong with these very nice people

If you decide to go with Watchfinder, make sure to check the watch REALLY well as I've had some poor experiences with them.

A Longines Chrono I had a look at, which the assistant pointed out was checked internally by their watchmaker, had weird reflections on the dial when moving the watch under the shop lights.

On closer inspection with a loupe, there were 2 long scratches on the dial. When I started looking even closer, there was a finger print smudge under the crystal, and a scratch on the movement. When I pointed this out to the asssitant he said he had no idea how this happened, went to call the head office and after said they could knock 150 GBP off the price......for a scratched dial, smudged crystal and scratched movement

Another time when I had a look at a Planet Ocean, upon closer inspection there was a scratch on the sapphire (not on the AR coating as your fingernail would catch on it), again nowhere mentioned in the description, the assistant said, oh well, they're used watches, this is to be expected....how about no?

Iconicwatches Blackburn. I have used them three times since 2016 & they are very reliable. If they don’t have the watch you’re looking for they will source it for you
