Transylvania

Sinaia, Sighisoara, Brasov, Bran, and Busteni. Driving through Transylvania and the rest of Romania was no joke. We've driven around Europe before but this time felt a bit more hairy, as we had the kiddos in the back. So worth it though!

The wild boys couldn't get enough of Dracula's castle and Wednesday Addams' Nevermore Academy. I can't say enough about how surprised I was at the beauty of my wife's country.

My favorite part though? Seeing our eldest go up against the locals in soccer and him scoring multiple goals. Stud!

I highly recommend doing the Transfăgărășan drive if you have a chance.

Gorgeous pictures and family. Enjoy.

So… they’ve taken down all of Vlad’s vertical stakes?

Just kidding. Sort of.

Amazing trip Jesse, your boys are very lucky to experience travel at such an early age.

Splendid. Romanian born and raised here - actually from the same region. Glad to see others enjoying our country

Wonderful trip Jesse. This is on my bucket list but I think it may happen in the next year or two as my daughters are huge Wednesday fans.

If you don’t mind my asking… how old was your wife when she emigrated and how does she feel the area has changed since she initially left?

Thanks Jason - highly recommend going sooner if you can; such a beautiful and very underrated region. Other places get all the love but we were truly amazed at the beauty there.

My wife moved over when she was around 9 from the Constanta / Mamaia side, which is the Eastern shore of the country. The beach has always been a get-away, so she remembers it fondly. What has changed more is Bucharest itself. I'll mention this again when I post the Bucharest photos, but they've really tried to give it that "old town" European feel, when in actuality it was under Communist rule for the better part of the last century.

I still think Bucharest is worth a visit and they are doing things to clean it up, but it really pales in comparison to cities like Paris, Budapest, Prague, etc.

The gem is the Transylvania region, and the other cities that we missed this time around (Timisoara, Cluj Napoca). Look up the fortified churches of Transylvania as well!

This thread is great. JParm, thanks for the photos.

We're heading out to Romania in a few weeks. I can't wait.

My wife is also from Romania.

We're heading out to baptize our baby in Brasov area. We'll also have our 5-yr old daughter with us. Right now looking for different areas to visit/stay.

Also, the question I guess I have to ask.... did you bring any Rolex with you?

Breathtaking photos. What stands out, also, out is how pristine and well maintained everything is. A beautiful country.

Great pix, happy family on vacay!

My late grandfather was an officer in the Romanian army. He got on a train to Paris and never went back. Thankfully for my family in the USA ( dodged the Holocaust).
