Is there a coming of age occasion that when the tradition extends to the next generation or anything like that? Are all the rings the same, from the same maker?

When we were younger my brother's and I got the exact sterling silver Lion rings. When we graduated from college got the 18k gold one.

All the rings are same. Since my Father had diamonds in eyes that's what we got, rubies and emeralds for Son's of my Uncle's.

We got them made from a specific jeweler but they are no longer in business. We commissioned several wax molds so we have them and can be made when needed. One of my brother's lost his and a jeweler poured the gold into the wax cast, set the diamonds and he was back wearing The Lion Ring.

I find it rather humorous that wearing a ring on your so called ring finger is fine, but god forbid you put it on a different finger.

OMG, he’s wearing a ring on his pointer finger. You’re only supposed to point with that finger.

OMG he wearing a ring on his middle finger. You’re supposed to do other things with that finger.

Our “rules” are often so very childish. OMG he’s wearing a pink shirt….

Bottom line on this stuff is really insecurity, “what would other people think of me”.

I believe the tradition of sailors/pirates wearing a gold earring was so if they drowned and washed up on shore that the ring could be used for a Christian burial.

My grandfather gave me a gold pinky ring with a grey sapphire stone when i was like 14. It stayed in my drawer until I recently gave it to my 20 year old son. He wears it on his pinky. I never had the interest or mojo to pull it off. I don't have any tattoos either but he has several. Looks good on him. To each their own.
