I saw it in "person" on the older unfluted ones in NYC. I didn't like it because I don't want to be wearing diamonds - too show-offy, as I said. They don't jump out like a large rock on someone's finger, but you can immediately see they are diamonds.

I also think the sculpted Romans provide more life and an interesting feature to the dial. The transparent thin diamond sticks kind of disappear. I like the hour markers to be more contrasty and noticeable against the dial - the diamond sticks against the surrounding shiny white PT metal are too subdued IMO. I am used to, and I like diving watches, so maybe that's why I feel this way about the hours!

Update - anyone getting this watch?

I've been waiting for 19 months now for the ice Day Date 40 platinum fluted. What has been your luck at getting this? Some on this thread said they got theirs - I've spoken to my AD but he just says he has no idea when. Are things loosening up...or am I just not getting to get this watch? Please tell your experiences. Thanks.

Perhaps try a different AD. I know the 36mm fluted are below retail at the moment on the used market. Just saw one listed for 48K. Not sure on the 40mm fluted price or availability used. If the 40mm is not much over retail, I would just get one now and wear the watch. Waiting on an AD who has no idea if he will ever get one makes no sense if there is another reasonable alternative.

Is this unusual? How many of you have gotten one (new, from the AD)?
To you lucky ones who scored, are you as thrilled in real life as the pictures imply?
My AD said they generally get two DD40 and two DD36 in platinum each year. He let me handle the last DD40 they got and while it was amazing, at $69,000 the white gold DD40 is looking better and better.

I was told by my AD that it’s like getting a Nautilus. I just went and got an unworn old model with the motif dial.

A high spend history and previous long term relationship is the only way you’ll obtain a 228236 platinum day date from an AD. Anything is possible but it will be nearly impossible to source one as your first Rolex without a previous relationship with an AD. IMHO there is no such thing as a “list”. Just because you’re the first to register an interest in a particular Rolex model will not guarantee you first dibs at that model. The AD sells to whomever they deem worthy.

My AD offered me one with baguette markers. I went to see it and was very underwhelmed. Needless to say I turned it down. AD is an independent for reference, and he said it was the first platinum day date they have had in 2 years.

I expressed interest to an AD in a DD40 playdate and have yet to get one.

That being said this same AD offered me 2 DD40s last week. One WG with slate dial and a YG with romans. Holding out for the platinum....not in a rush.

I have been a long time Rolex customer with my AD - 3 Rolexes and other jewelery. Furthermore, we are good personal friends for over a decade. I do not think he is prioritizing anyone else or not trying as hard as he can to get the watch. He says he just has to wait until they decide to send him one - it is beyond his control to simply order one.

About the gray market comments here: I see my desired watch (ice blue DD 40 Romans) as low as $88k new from Jaztime. How do I know who is trustworthy among the grays? I gather Bob's is reputable but what about Jaztime and Chrono24? They also claim to have the watch in the 88-90k range.

Plenty of good sellers here that are trustworthy, and they can get you the watch. Davidsw, Takuya, Sohais, etc. If you’re considering Jaztime, read the thread on them in Who’s who section here on TRF. Crazy stuff.

i hadnt researched them yet when I posted. Yes - the threads on them are revealing that they are a disaster.
"If you want service then contact an Escort Service" Love it, LOL

Thanks for the 3 GOOD names you cited; any others you all recommend, or is there a good thread somewhere addressing this?

AU 911tt/ Chase from nashvillewatch.com is legit also. All of these sellers have watches posted for sale on this forum.

So... Chrono24 is not a gray dealer but rather a marketplace.

Feels like DD40s might be getting easier to source, at least in gold.

Ya I bought one a couple months ago, it’s so nice.
Can’t even imagine what my AD would have said. Very glad I didn’t play that game..
Wanted one and had it the next day. Wore it yesterday.
