How do I value a used watch?

Trying to put a value on a 1973 lady’s DJ with a jubilee band. The watch is complete but one end link is broken. No box or papers.

Maybe a photo would help or maybe jump on chrono surely something on that website would be a reasonable match

Run a search on Chrono24 and put together comps. There should be several/many examples of that reference. That should give you a starting point - actual values are probably 10-25% lower.

Welcome here.

I would try to figure out what the reference number is. This is the model number. Depending on the metal (stainless only, stainless and yellow gold or all yellow gold), the bezel and the dial, among other things, it can have different reference numbers. The reference number should be on the inside of where the bracelet is removed from the watch. Since the bracelet is broken, I would suggest getting it repaired.

The Chrono24 website has a great search engine when you figure out the reference number. You can filter by location (USA) and no books and papers to get an idea of value.

Thank you all. Being new here, I'm trying not to spam too much or inappropriately post something for sale in the wrong forum.
I've found chrono it seems. That's a good start.

Here is the watch, it's ref 6917 serial number 300xxxx

I don’t even know if that is the correct end link. All the search results I get for the jubilee has two slots.

Rhetorical question: How does one even value a project watch?

It’s in a pretty rough shape as you know and any potential buyers would want it at a lower rate unfortunately

If it's yours & you want to offload it, I'd start in the low $1000s as an asking price. If you found it & want to buy it, I wouldn't pay more than $750 because it's such a gamble. No history (B+P, service records), incomplete parts, a generous 70/100 condition, who knows how the movement is inside. I wouldn't say the bracelet is beyond repair (I'd leave that for @RolliWorks to decide), but this could be a leather strap contender, just judging by the horizontal flex on the table.

The problem is it's not a particularly desirable reference and examples in decent condition can be had for around 3K. I doubt anyone would offer you more than 1K for it and realistically probably less.

In modern watch lingo, "complete" means with box and papers.

+ 1

I think this is well stated. I take the lowest Chrono24 listing in my region, factor in box, paperwork (I try to find the same 'set'), and take off 10-15%. I think for a woman's watch the 10-25% is very accurate, popular men's model maybe closer to 10%.

If you are thinking of buying it, don’t. If you are selling it, it’s not worth much. Fix it and gift it to someone, it will make you feel good.
