I don't own an Apple watch or any other brand of smartwatch so I really can't compare directly.

I bought this specifically for golf. I don't use it any other time. In general I hate smart watches and don't enjoy wearing them. So for me, I prefered to have a watch dedicated to golf rather than a jack-of-all-trades smart watch. This watch does a really nice job for golf. I like the layout. The screen is easy to read. It picks up satelites quickly. Bettery life is aboout two full rounds, so if you charge after every use you won't have any issues. I like the layout with the hole numbers in the rehaut area. This allows you to access other holes quickly. It obviously is most useful for giving yardages which it gives to the front, middlle, and back of the green. You can also place pins anywhere on the hole if you want yardage to a particular part of the fairway. It has a direction finder so if you can't see the flag from where you are it will point you in the right direction. And everything goes over to the Garmin golf app which is a blast to look at later and see all your shots drawn out. Oh and the watch will give you notifications from your phone, weather, missed calls, emails, etc. so it does a lot of things a regular smart watch will do as well.

Probably more information than you needed, but as a watch to wear when playing golf I'm very happy with it.
