John Moran auction result

My family had a piece of jewelery in this auction so naturally I followed the watches.

There were a few surprises to me:
-116718LN, GMT II, yellow gold, scrambled serial, black dial: $22.5k
-16523, Daytona, two-tone, X serial, black dial with gold subdial rings: $13k
-Three Bluesys: $8k, $9.5k, $11k

But I may also be wrong and these numbers are pretty standard now. Any surprises to any of you?

I am not familiar with auctions at all

I avoid them because I’m never clear what the actual price is post tax and auctioneers fees

They are lower than the grey dealers want by at least 20%. That’s why watches are not moving. Moda is the same. Watches barely moving. Moda admin is running all kinds of cross selling into their premium groups to generate income. Watch market is extremely soft. I’m ecstatic. Sitting on piles of cash waiting to buy. When bnib precious metal models is back to 25% to 30% off retail im buying everything.

Me too! I’m just sitting on the sidelines waiting to see what happens mid February.

Some watch auctions have a 25% buyer's premium and report early results at the hammer prices and then later "results" inclusive. Are these inclusive of the buyer's premiums?

All these new watch “dealers” can cry as I take their inventory. They can only last so long.

Yet all Greys are still asking rather stiff prices and apparently are selling - you'll proudly see them declare "SOLD" in the marketplace forum.

I guess patience is key. Whenever I see a listing I think "that watch is only 10k at the AD - maybe next year I'll get the text..."

Do those prices include the buyer's premium? Auctions love adding exorbitant fees.

Ditto.

I'd like to add another watch too but refuse to pay over MSRP for a few year old USED watch that's also a previous gen model. (YM - 116622 vs 126622).

Yes some greys still selling. But look at the time of the listing. They pull it and will relist it again. If you are in Moda you will see many watches sitting. Auction prices on Moda are way lower than this forums sales from trusted sellers. I’d say 20% less. Moda moves many more watches than a regular watch forum. It is trending down very very fast.

It has been stated that some of the SOLD postings have not been true. Desperate times bring out the best in people.

Watch could be sold anywhere just not here. Some mention Moda and I’ve seen BLNRs BNIB for significantly less than what I see here or Chrono. Still more then I want to pay over list but deals are to be had if you look right.

As mentioned add the fees and taxes +/- 30% combined and it’s not so cheap considering watches are sold ‘as is’.

A bit offtopic, but lot no. 138 looks like it has been through hell and back. Don't they clean watches before taking pictures? a simple brush and ultrasonic for the bracelet would add 1k+ easily.

Sounds quite low. I'd also be curious about any premiums not included in those prices.

Yeah I think the premium is 27% so not quite the low prices I initially thought.
