Can I ask everyones advice on a pending purchase???
Hey all,
Have'nt posted in a while, just been lurking but I need some advice from the experts and the rest of you all as well I have been offered a deal on two watches: 1) OMEGA Snoopy Speedmaster Limited Edition Reference # 3578.51.00 and watch was bought new by seller in July 2006 at an Omega dealer. Omega warranty valid till July 2008 and 2) Omega Seamaster RAILMASTER 41mm Chronometer Aqua Terra Comes with COSC certificate, Railmaster brochure, all boxes and paperwork. Watch was bought new by seller on Aug. 20, 2006 at an Omega dealer. Omega warranty valid till August 2009 So basically I can get both for $4500 CAD and would pick them up in Montreal and bring cash. This seems like a good deal to me and I believe I would be happy with both watches and could even flip one for decent cash as well... but what do you all think? Is this a GREAT deal or just a GOOD deal? Any and all advice as always is greatly appreciated!

First you gotta ask yourself something. Are these the watches that you really want? As I recall there was something that you wanted that you still have not bought yet. A brand new GMT2 is not that far off from what you are going to spend on these 2. Now I havent tlaked to you in a while so I dont know if your grail watch has changed but if it hasnt, I would pass on these 2 even if it was a great deal.

Don't expect to make money flipping an Omega, Ren. I'd go with Roger and Craig's advice. Keep after your grail watch. Don't let a "good deal" side track you.

yes definitely get your 'grail' watch, afterall you'll still want the grail. As mentioned you'll lose on the Omegas if you sell them for the 'grail' watch and still be behind!

Hi Ren,
Nice to have you back and posting on this forum, pal!! Take my advice....hold on!!! Save up some more and get yourself a Rolex....the one you really like!! If you plan on keeping the Omega, that's fine...otherwise you will take a big hit on it. Good luck....just think a while on this one. JJ

well not all of us here secretly lust after rolexes JJ like you
seriously though, i wouldnt go for the deal as i dont think it is such a great deal anyway.. and although the snoopy speedmaster is collectible amongst some people, i think that having acartoon character plastered all over a £1500 watch is completely innapropriate.. save your $$$ for the watch you really want. |

Some excellent words to ponder my friends and now that I've had some time to think about your advice (especially you Roger ) I think I may pass on this deal... if even Mamas a true hearted Omega man says it's not such a hot deal then I will wait and keep my eyes set firmly on the GMT or 2 tone sub!
Thanx again all!

I have no idea what 4500 Canadian Dollars would be in US, but I am guessing around 4k?
The Snoopy should go for about 1500...1600 USD, and the Railmaster somewhere in the same range. The maximum amount I would pay for those two would be around 3000 USD, and at that price I don't think you would ever stand to lose any money on them.

Since I don't know what the "Snoopy" resale prices are, I guess I can't comment for sure but it doesn't sound like a "great" deal, although I suppose it might be a good deal. My watch collecting orientation is different than yours because generally I keep my watches, only selling very occasionally. So that means I only look at the resale value as one of many criteria and not the main one. However, I don't see the point of buying something only to sell it a couple of months later. Some people do make a little money that way, I guess, or so they say, but I always buy because I love the watch and it has features I either don't already have in my collection, like a particular movement, complication, etc., or because I really want to wear it because I just like it. But that's me. Good luck.

I have decided that this deal is not that great and I would be better served saving my $$$ and getting the watch that I want/need right now. THANX AGAIN FOR THE ADVICE ONE AND ALL!
