Datejust Bezel Compatibility? (116xxx vs 126xxx)

I am in search of a genuine fluted bezel that will fit a 126234 or 126200 Datejust, but they are quite difficult to come by. 116234 fluted bezels are readily available, however.

I have spoken to a couple of watchmakers, one of whom said that the 116234 bezel won't fit the 126234. The other stated that it would fit, but it was a matter of finding the right gasket to make it fit.

Does anyone know if I can reliably fit the older bezel onto the newer watch? Thanks
