Would you polish?

Watch is a 14k 1503 oyster date. (1972)

Bracelet has been polished. Head apparently never has been polished. It has a bit of a rose colored patina on it in certain spots.

would you polish it? Leave it?

Im not Opposed to polishing it, will it hurt anything? Value or watch itself?

I would have the bracelet reworked by Rolliworks or any other competent repair person. They can advise what you should do with polishing while the watch is there.

That "rose" color is gold oxidation (patina). If you polish it, it will only come back in time. There are many who like the oxidation because it usually takes decades to appear.

That case appears to have been polished already, so I'd send it to a vintage case expert to freshen it up.

I lean strongly against polish, unless the case really needs repair. This case appears polished to me, as well, but pretty good. I would leave it. There are just soooo many watches out there that have been prettied up for retail by flippers and they just don't stand out in any way and never will to collectors. To me case condition is the same as location is to real estate. Start there. I have some great unpolished watches and I think someone is going to thank me, some day, for not trying to make these shinier in the short term. Hopefully it won't be my kids thanking me from a bail bonds place . . .

I would leave it alone. It has been polished too much all ready.

Definitely leave it alone. If you get it polished over time it will come back again

Give it a wipe over with a gold polishing cloth to get rid of the oxidation?

The guys that have the skill to fix these would rather do sports watches since these are probably harder to fix. Lots of flat surfaces on sports cases making them easier to recut I can imagine.

They CAN fix date/dj - then again, if you didn’t notice it was polished why do anything. Just wear it if it’s running.

Removal of any precious metal I'd personally avoid.

It's a soft metal so mid-case and bracelet material can get easily dented - so best to leave I'd say - rather than it becoming an ever-wearing (and decreasing) bar of soap !

Would just leave as is. Personally, I like the patina.

The case does not appear unpolished to me.
