PAM 2068 vs 1068

Hello all, I am thinking about buying my first Panerai, a Submersible 42 Blue Notte on bracelet, model PAM 2068. I see this is a slightly different model number than this watch used to have, PAM 1068, so I assume there’s been some update since it was first released — except I can’t find anything about it. Does anyone know the difference between the 1068 and the 2068?

Also, this watch has a P.900 movement. I’ve read some comments that it doesn’t actually keep time well. Thoughts? Anyone have personal experience with either the 2068 or this movement in a different model?

Thanks!!

Regarding your question, I'm not sure. However, that watch really suits you.

I own the 1068. I love the the watch. I put it on a blue rubber b strap. Mine doesnt keep very good time like you have heard from others. It runs about 10 sec fast if its fully wound but as the power supply runs down it just keeps getting faster. Its consistent so it doesnt bother me too much.

Thanks. That's interesting. Digging further, I now understand the 1068 has the P.9010 movement, while the 2068 has the P.900 movement. The stuff I've seen suggests that the P.900 keeps better time than the P.9010 but nevertheless is considered a "lesser" movement.

I have a 1055 with the p.900 and it’s actually very accurate at +2.5/day.

Be cautious though-
Many of the newer subs have these same numbered movements that do NOT hack (if that matters to you).

I was trying on a few at the local boutique and I noticed that on all of them.

Mine does not hack. I need to look at the caseback to see which movement I have. I think its the p900 but not 100% sure.

Thanks. For this watch, it doesn't matter to me if it hacks or not, especially because there's no minute track on the dial. I appreciate the head's up however -- and good to hear how accurate yours has been!

Curious to know how comfortable that steel bracelet was? It’s super cool looking tho.

It was extremely comfortable. I also tried on a Due with the bracelet and it was even more comfortable, given the smaller and lighter dial.

I agree. The watches have very different aesthetics. The Due very much feels like a dress watch, thin and comfortable. The Sub felt more like a casual watch, although I have no doubt I could pair it with a suit -- it just seems more like a casual watch than the Due.

If I may piggyback on your question. I'm looking at picking up a used PAM 683 (42mm Submersible). I noticed on the Panerai website it's been replaced by the PAM 2683. I assume it's the same as your deal in that the only thing that changed is the movement.

I'm assuming this small change is a good reason for a price increase.

Thanks!

Never heard that P.900 is not keeping time well.

I have a Pam 1288 with the P.900 movement and mine runs slow. Fortunately, I wear it for a week then switch to a different watch and I don't use a winder, so it stops anyway before I wear it again.
